Things to do in Chadstone
Everyone thinks they can make pizza -- until they visit New York or Italy -- then the lumpen, overloaded mediocrity of 'Australia pizza' is seen for what it is--namely, a pale and inferior imitation. I am happy to say that this is not the case here. They know what they are doing, and they do it well. On an unassuming side street in the leafy side of Chadstone and virtually under the ramparts of the megalopolis itself, is Belle Rose. But don't go expecting an Italian place. Being Australia, the place is run by a salt-of-the-Earth Indian family: Mum, Dad and the two girls. When we went there (largely on the strength of a 4.9 review on Zomato--unheard of!) one lass was doing her homework on one of the tables, earplugs in ears, with the telly showing 'Horrible Histories', stopping her labours to help her parents by taking 'phone orders. Outside the back door was a pile of wood beams in disarray, a half-finished deck, and a garden of weeds. The Dad greeted us with a big smile and tended to our order with genuine pride, chatting away as he went. The place could do with a big overhaul, and a paint-job, and--by going posh--they could fill the place nightly if they wanted to, but it's the food I am reviewing, and it's the best pizza I've had since Penn Station in NYC--and that was fab. My 15-year old, in a moment of clarity said: "perfect sauce/topping ratio Dad". This is basically a take-away joint, but if you are in the area, and you want to support migrants that work hard, don't grumble (he was in front of an open-fire in 40 degree heat), and good folk who have smiles as large as Australia, then try Belle Rose. Oh, leave the car at the door of the place if it is a nice day and walk across the road to the nice park and eat your meal to the sound of frogs in the pond. It could not get much better. You got to love the 'burbs.

What is a Maxi Dog...? A new and fresh combination of two distinct food groups. Take a large pizza with the lot, prepare as normal then lay out 3 hot dogs on top of the plentiful mozzarella. Enclose the dogs in a makeshift bun by wrapping up the pizza before baking. A true life altering experience.

We have been to Woodstock a handful of times and have usually found it to be a good restaurant with something for everyone’s tastes, comfortable and good value for money with quality food. Unfortunately we will not be going back... upon arrival we were not greeted and the waitress clearly did not want to be there and was the rudest waitress we have ever encountered, it was almost unbelievable. We had previously sat in booths there so enquired (very nicely I might add) if there was one available. She was not happy about this and then preceded to slam our menus on the booth table and say there would not be enough room for our food. We looked at each other in disbelief at her behaviour and should have walked out then. Funnily enough all the booths around us sat the exact number of people we had in our group. She came back to take our order and was extremely gruff and once again incredibly rude. The entire time we maintained a friendly and polite manner but it most definitely wasn’t matched! Food came out quickly, but wasn’t entirely what we asked for, dairy- free diner request with no Parmesan was not accommodated (meal came out with what looked like extra Parmesan) and we did not get the tomato sauce we asked for with a child’s meal (we were also charged $1.50 for this sauce!) Will not be going back which is a shame, not the warm friendly welcoming Italian restaurant vibe you expect to receive. We are still in complete disbelief at the rudeness and hostility we received.

Our newest member to the family, The Last Piece Oakleigh opened to a warm reception in June 2017. Based on the framework of the founding Waverley Park, The Last Piece Oakleigh serves italian influenced dinner 7 days a week. Pizza is of a focus at dinner,
Went here last week for the second time. Just fantastic.Had the pasta although it’s mainly a pizza restaurant. Had the pumpkin ravioli with burned butter and it was excellent (although the portion size was a little small). Also had a glass of wine which was pretty good too.Place was full on both occasions but the staff managed to get us a seat. Can get a little noisy with a large crowd there but it was still ok. Staff are efficient, friendly and attentive.Really enjoyed both visits, I’ll be back.

Pizza was the pick of the dishes - had a the "special"meatball pizza and vegetarian Hawaiian ( without ham)... topping was tasty enough , crust a little stodgy. Also tried the lamb shanks - smallest shanks and tasteless . Bed of rice was too wet . Not a local from Ashburton, so not sure if there are better options - would I return ? Nope

TIP. Restaurant is on Stephensons Road. Large car park at rear, with rear pedestrian entrance into restaurant.Smart looking table cloths. Two of us sat in a 4 person booth - nice, comfy, roomy seating. Long tables are available for small groups. At 6pm on this Saturday there were plenty of spare seats.TIP. BYO wine is permitted, but $7 per bottle corkage. The in-house wines are reasonably priced, so leave the BYO at home. Wines available by the glass. Beers available. Food is Hakka style (region in SE China) with Swedish influence. The #5 Hakka Fried Prawns with Steve's spicy Hakka dipping sauce were a delicious entree, and the Masala (spicy) Fish main course (pictured) was absolutely scrumptious - so full of spicy flavours - with Egg Rice side dish. And the Swedish Cake w ice cream for dessert was really good also. We'll have to go back again.
