we had the most intimate, lovely, and excellent dinner on the Friday evening we were in Aix, due to the recommendation of a local businessman. Open for dinner only on Fridays, the tiny courtyard (family) restaurant was just perfect. Incredible food!! Very representative of the regional cooking; exquisite food lovingly and proudly prepared. We felt very special to get to enjoy this tucked-away treasure, and long to return!

Da Vito

We have been in Aix for three weeks and we have dined at this restaurant 3 times. If we go back, maybe we will get past the pizza. But why, it is the best pizza we have ever eaten. Our first visit, we just stopped in at dinner and were only able to get a table downstairs in the cave. The last two times, I have made a reservation for lunch, but we still sat inside, on the main level. The staff is very friendly, we have the same waiter each time, since he is the only one that speaks English. My husband and I usually split a starter, and then split a pizza. They are very accommodating about bringing the dishes separately and bringing extra plates, which is clearly not the European way of eating. The wine list has some nice wines at reasonable prices. The homemade Tiramisu and cannoli are worth the extra calories. We have one more week here, and I suspect we could be back for an encore.

Staying in Le Tholonet, didn't feel like going all the way into Aix, read the reviews and decided to try it. What a lovely night, the staff appear delighted with everyone that arrives. We were quickly given the run down on the menu. We had the veal scallopini and a pizza, both were very good. A really pleasant inexpensive night out!

La Familia

We had a very pleasant meal at La Familia, we were looking for a good Italian style pizza and definitely found it here. This is a small restaurant so if you're going later in the evening I recommend booking, we saw a few people being turned away after 8pm. The other diners seemed local (or at the very least French) which is a good sign. The atmosphere was lively and convivial. We ordered a Catalane and a Calzone which were served very promptly. You have the option of a creme fraiche or tomato based sauce with the calzone - I opted for the latter. The calzone is also served with a large heap of leuttice with balsamic dressing. As in most places, the house red was cheap and readily drinkable. We chose not to have a dessert however the profteroles that I saw coming from the kitchen were huge!Final price was very reasonable, we would definitely return.
