We have become "regulars"......it's a bit embarrassing when we walk in and the man behind the counter grabs two plain doughnuts and readies himself to fill them with cream and jam!! Yes, we do try to branch out but nothing can beat the "tailor-made" doughnut. The bagels are great, the sausage roll is the best, as are the pies in all their varieties and you'd be advised to take home some sour dough bread. The customer service is second to none - always so friendly and welcoming. I guess you could call it our "local" for morning tea, or brunch or lunch or just for a sneaky feed.
Just stopped at Azure for a quick something to eat before heading through to Wellington. Service wa great... couldnât make up my mind about some of the wonderful local art for sale and was kindly allowed to exchange not once but twice. Toasted sandwich was spot on and nice to have a hot - hot chocolate.

This is the perfect place to stop when you are doing the Forgotten World Highway roadtrip, the capital of the Republic of Whangamomona. Nothing much, just a hotel with a few store and the President Park. Like the humour of the people here. Interesting historical exhibit in hotel, paid $2 for the passport stamp.

We went to the cafe at the Pioneer Village a couple of years back and it was very ordinary, but I presume it has new owners and they've made a great effort to lift the 'bar'. The decor is cosy and makes you want to linger, which for us, is what a visit to a cafe is all about - time to enjoy the surroundings with a great meal and a good coffee!. We looked over the lunch menu and found a number of mouth watering options. Walking into this the Shakee Pear Cafe we felt instantly 'at home' and this feeling was a delight as we have struggled to find a half decent cafe in and around Stratford for quite some time now. In previous years would drive all the way from Stratford to Egmont Village, or New Plymouth for some ambience and decent presentation of food and good coffee! And so, the coffee here is 'spot-on' and that says a lot about the barista knowing their coffee and how to make a good cup.So A BIG Thanks to the owners and the staff of the 'Shakee Pear Cafe' for making our visit a memorable one, somewhere where travellers to stratford can we look forward to a great experience when passing through. I wish you every success.

We stayed here for our anniversary and took advantage of the dinner bed and breakfast package. We were in Room 10. The room was nice, modern decor and clean, although the handle on the bathroom door was so broken we couldn't actually open or shut the door, which didn't bother us too much and we informed management. Lovely spa, though the water was a little brown, but i don't know if there is much they can do about that.Dinner was superb. Liking a challenge, we went for 3 courses (they also do a 2 course package for $20 less). My husband had the scallops and prawns to start and I went for the special which was the duck terrine. Both were amazing. For Mains he chose the smoked duck and I had the special again, eye fillet wrapped in bacon with blue cheese sauce. Again, delicious. My steak was cooked to perfection and the blue cheese sauce was sublime, but the smoked duck was out of this world. I had a little bit of food envy. Only minor thing was my husband found a small piece of tin-foil in his mashed potato, which he informed the waitress about, but didn't stop him cleaning his plate! Managed to squeeze in dessert! My husband had the Malibu cheesecake (flavour changes daily) and I had the lemon meringue. I couldn't finish it, but i wanted to, it was perfect.Breakfast the next day was just as good. I had the eggs florentine, couldn't fault it, my husband had the big mountain breakfast, he said the bacon was superb. All in all, a couple of small niggles, but we would definitely go back, the food is amazing!

This place has a bar and a dining area and is pretty popular. The food was above average and there was plenty of it. The staff were on the ball and the service was good. It isn't fine dining but it is a very good feed.
