Reviews on Moroccan food in Chefchaouen, Tangier-Tetouan Region, Morocco. This stunning Moroccan city in the Rif Mountains was originally built as a fortress in the 15th century. The mountains towering over Chefchaouen resemble a pair of goat’s horns, and, perhaps not coincidentally, the creamy native goat cheese is one of the most popular regional treats. Architecture enthusiasts will marvel at the Jewish-inspired blue-tinted buildings, octagonal mosque and Spanish ruins.

Chefchaouen is a tourist Mecca, so there are loads of restaurants around the town that attempt to lure in visitors with glossy menus full of local âspecialtiesâ like pizza, tacos and burgers. We wanted something Moroccan, and we wanted it to be well prepared and not overpriced. When someone from Moriscos presented us with a menu, we explained what we were after, and that Iâm a cook at my own restaurant. He insisted that we had found the best possible place, and that they offered local dishes that we wouldnât find at the other places on the square. He even showed me the kitchen to demonstrate how clean and orderly it was. That was enough for us, so up we went to the top floor overlooking the Utta el-Hamam square below, so we could watch the passersby and listen to the musicians not far away. The meal we had was excellent. We started off with a goatâs cheese salad (Chefchaouen is known for its goatâs cheese) and a dish of tomatoes with peppers, both delicious, and these were accompanied by a dish of olives and a spinach salad along with some fresh breads. For our mains we had a Chefchaouen-style tajine of goat with prunes and a chicken bastilla, both of which we enjoyed immensely, though it was a bit more food than we really neededâwe could have easily done with one main instead of two. This was then followed by fresh slices of sweet and refreshing watermelon. This was an excellent meal, and reasonably priced. Definitely a winner!

Casa Hassan combines excellent traditional Moroccan cooking with a cozy dining space inside the enclosed patio of a former dar (mansion). The small, beautifully tiled kitchen and its friendly cooks whip up an amazing bistilla, flaky outside and sweet and delicious inside. The calamari is also quite succulent, lightly spiced to perfection. Waitstaff are courteous and obliging. It's a nice place for a relaxed meal after a day of taking in the wonders of this famed "blue town."

Hotels in Chafchaouen are generally not of international standard . When we were booked into Chez Aziz . Looking at the pictures outside , we were genuinely concern about the neighbourhood . Upon arrival , what a surprise. The interior is very quaint . The terrace is a very nice meeting place to drink tea , and look out at the magnificent view . The owner Mr Aziz is very friendly and the breakfast serve in the room is nice . A truly good value for money .. Euro 66

Great service- pleasant and efficient!Wonderful chicken couscous! Generous dollop of carmelized onions and the couscous was very flavorful and moist, unlike most of the other couscous dishes I have had in Morocco. We sat upstairs and enjoyed the quiet space. Recommend!

We are two French-Moroccan sisters, we get our french pastry degree and we decide to create HAMSA in Chefchaouen, the city of birth of our father. We have a saloon and a terrace with Panoramic view of Chefchaouen. At HAMSA you'll find delicious, seasonal
They have a cat in the terrace and he just leapped on the table and got his head in the food...The restaurant said it wasn't their problem and we had to pay anyway. Good food if you like it with cat hair inside!Dear DiegoChefchaouen is full of cats, when you eat on a terrace, it implies to be confronted with nature ( bees, cats, risk of rain, ... ) ...Do you have any proposition to give me to erased cats of our rooftop ? The cat is not our cat, and I can not afford a bodyguard for cats also I can not installed transparent walls in our rooftop, ... If it does not suit you , we are lucky to have a saloon downstair without the inconvenient of the outside. Also if you had tell us what happened during your meal we could have change your plate and you could have changed your place. I have just ask my staff, and they said no one complained about a hair in the food and you told me that you had eat your food. I saw this cat (and others) many times in the rooftop but usually people just push them away or they change place or they simply like it. If I have to offer food for free to all the customers that the cats have annoyed we would be closed.it's the first time someone asked for free meal, because of a cat! so I should have understand that this is what you wanted even if your plates were almost empty. and I will not have had this very nasty note, poor of me!Do not hesitate to give us advice to make cats disappear? ( I am very interested )Yours truly,HAMSA

Great and exceptionally kind staff . The food was great as I have never had authentic Moroccan food so I have nothing real to compare it to. The only thing I wish they would have done is give the restaurant a little makeover especially towards the inside of the restaurant was pretty old. Overall I would visit again as I had delicious tagine lamb and harira

We are proud of Morocco's ancient culinary tradition and heritage. We try to bring to our customers the authentic flavors of Moroccan traditional home cooking.
A shopkeeper whom we befriended, when asked if he could recommend a restaurant for dinner, said he rarely goes out to meals, but when he and his family do, they go here. That seemed promising enough, so we gave it a go. The dishes we saw other tables enjoying looked good when we arrived, and indeed we were not disappointed. There are a few dishes that differ from the usualâfor instance, they do their bastilla as a roll rather than the usual diskâso if youâre getting a bit tired of the same-old tajine, couscous, salads, etc, there are things here to pique your interest. Service was friendly if a bit slow (but thatâs to be expectedâthere is not a huge staff here). Prices very reasonable, too.

Cross- Cultural Cafe in the medina of Chefchaouen serving Camel Burgers, Tagines, Salads, Milkshakes and great Coffee. Live Music, Cooking School, Calligraphy, Exhibitions and more.
Great place, loved the upstairs terrace and sunset! Good food, great salad with avocat and figs. Live guitar was nice, untill there was live singing; could not understand my table-partner any more. Would defintily come back without the loud singing voice ;)

Buzzing place opposite the Kasbah. Food as you would expect in this area. Tasty tagines, a solid size portion. Couscous a little bland, but went well with the otherfood. Get a seat close to the square/plaza to watch the world go by.

When going to Chefchaouen, this is one of the best restaurants to go to. They have moroccan specialities such as the tajine, but also have a killer aubergine lasagne and spanish croquettas that are amazing! The brevettes were also really good and dont forget to try the homemade lemonade. The view and the whole setting makes this restaurant a perfect experience.
