Nestled down the small Melbourne Place laneway in Melbourneâs CBD, Sezar was opened in 2013 by Chef Garen Maskal and cousins Aret and Sasoon Arzadian. The restaurant continues to attract local foodies, corporate customers and international visitors in a f
Superb fine dining â perfect for a special night out.We chose Sezar because it was convenient to our mid-city hotel during a visit to Melbourne, and expected to experience rustic peasant food from a culture we hadnât tried before. Instead, we were treated to exquisite modern dishes that, though they may have had an Armenian inspiration, would be a credit to any classy modern restaurant. Expecting that a chef will present his best dishes, the dishes that showcase his talents, his culture, and his establishment, as we have found elsewhere, we extravagantly ordered the 5-course chefâs banquet. We then ordered the matching drinks FOR ONE â at 5 standard drinks, we thought we should share the drinks. WOW! A fantastic gourmet extravaganza! The range of dishes, the subtle nuances of some of the flavours were sensational; the velvety texture of the hommus, with brown butter, was âto die forâ, the best we have ever had; the stuffed zucchini flowers tasted as good as they looked. AND, then the desserts! A fantastic mix of new and old treats â glad we had to walk back to our hotel, and glad we werenât counting the calories.Dominic, the Assistant Manager, and aspiring sommelier, led us through each dish and its components, and introduced the wine that accompanied each dish. The wines themselves took us on an historical and international journey through an extensive range of wines and the cultures they represented, from the chenin blanc from South Africa to the Heathcote, Victoria, white, to the cloudy Georgian amber wine, plus more, and finishing with the superb Portuguese Tokay! A truly special evening! Sezar has one of the most extensive and wide-ranging wine lists of my humble experience, without only covering the traditional European regions, and we thoroughly enjoyed both our culinary and oenological experience.NOTE Though the restaurant usually holds some spaces for âwalk-insâ, donât rely on it â book ahead â we nearly missed out!

We were so impressed with every aspect of Maha. Upon arrival the staff were exceptional; friendly, professional and clearly well versed in the menu. The drinks list was impressive, and I highly recommend the blackberry cocktail if you like sweet drinks. We enjoyed the 6 course degustation and enjoyed every element of this menu. Highlights were the smoked ocean trout and hummus in the first cours, the charred young leeks in second, the beef manti in fourth and slow roasted lamb shoulder in fifth. Maha have clearly worked hard to create a special dining experience. The character of the restaurant is a stand out as is the exceptional customer service from booking through to your final moments in the restaurant. Cannot wait to go back!

Whoever gave positive feedback they havenât eaten the real afghan food. By the looks it this restaurant seems very nice but the food is discusting. Kebabs r not chewable. The bread is cold. Salad was not fresh. Donât waste your money going even trying.
