My wife and I had wanted to visit this reataurant for a while but never got around to it. How much did we regret that decision. From the moment we arrived we received a warm welcome. The staff and owner were lovely. The food was superbly cooked by what ws clearly a skilled chef. The chicken shish was full of flavour and very juicy. My wifes Mousakka was equally good and the starters of paprika creamy mushrooms and home made hummus with delicious Turkish bread were equally delicious.Need we say more than the next time we eat out in Sunderland which will be soon we will be coming here.Highly recommended

We were staying in Sunderland for the World Transplant Games and decided to treat ourselves. We visited Shandiz as we wanted to try food we'd never tried. We were not disappointed. The restaurant is a little worn around the edges. The waitress was fabulous . So helpful , friendly and accommodating. We ordered our food and wow! When it arrived, my taste buds exploded.the food tasted so good it was some of the most delicious food I've had. I can't wait to be in Sunderland again.

Ordered our drinks and then ordered our food, Egyptian Fatta & Moussaka with Egyptian Bread. We were then taken upstairs to our table and waited for our food. After about 5 minutes the most miserable waitress I have ever met told me they had no Moussaka or Bread and then stood glaring at me. When I said I would need a few minutes to pick something else she gave me a filthy look and stormed off, I then picked the Kofta Dawood Basha. The Fatta is supposed to be bread soaked in soup mixed with rice and topped with a lamb shank and a garlic tomato sauce but when it came it was really dry with barely any sauce on it unlike the last time my fiancé had it and there was loads of sauce. He called the waitress over and explained and she said that it was always like that. He explained that it wasn't the first time that he had tried this dish but she continued to argue with him. She then brought him a dish of the sauce to pour over it but this was just passata and not a garlic tomato sauce. The Dawood Basha is supposed to be meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce but this was the same passata sauce they had given my fiance. When we went downstairs to pay we told the other waitress what had been wrong and she confirmed that they had a pan of plain passata that they just used for anything that was in a tomato sauce regardless of what the sauce should be. She explained that because it was a Sunday they had run out of a lot of the ingredients so couldn't make some of the things properly. I then queried why they were serving dishes with the wrong ingredients and charging the full price but she didn't have an answer for that and just tried to persuade us to give them another chance but we assured her we would not return. I then woke up in the night with really bad stomach ache and diarrhea.
