Find out what Middle Eastern restaurants to try in Essen. Essen began in the mid-9th century as home to a women's abbey, then during the Renaissance became an important coal mining town and later a major steel production center. The famed metal-working Krupp family opened their first foundry here in 1810. One of Essen's most interesting places is the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex, once the largest colliery in the world. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it attracts 800,000 visitors a year, often hosting art exhibitions and performances.

Had a very good meal here. For the starters, there was a range of excellent Turkish mezze, standouts included the hummus, the stuffed calamari, and the eggplants. For the main dish they had fresh fish on offer, grilled and served with olive oil, either on the bone or served as filets- they were offering sole, sea bass and turbot. The turbot was exceptional, well cooked and very fresh. They also offer a range of meat dishes as well , beef and lamb. Very good service, a good wine list, overall a very good experience.

I have been to Arabesque several times, and I am always left impressed. They offer top quality cuisines and variety is impressive. They offer a nice patio area that offers a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Be aware that on weekends it is normally required to have a reservation because it is busy. One can tell the dishes are prepared fresh by the flavors and one should not come to Arabesque in a rush. The lunch menu offers a more limited menu that allows for a quick(er) meal.I would highly recommend Arabesque, and be sure to explore the cute neighborhood while you are there!

A very enjoyable meal. La Turka is aTurkis resaurant which shows another side of the Turkish kitchen. Menu is mainly meat and the majority Lamb meat. Fish dishes are offered in moderation. La Turka can get busy as one of the few good rstaurants on the RU (Ruettenscheider Str.). We booked but were 40mins late due to traffic. Nevertheless the table was held for us as I called to inform La Turka of our delay. Very friendly staff, good service, good food. Price for quality and ambiant acceptable. Wine selection could be extended.
