We stumbled across La Mamounia just behind the Place des Heros in Arras and were treated to excellent Moroccan couscous and wonderful tajines. We were 6 that night and afterwards booked for 10 a couple of nights later. The menu is simple, various tajines and brochettes with couscous (there is a limit of about 6 on the number of tajines that can be ordered simultaneously), and all are served in a delightful and friendly atmosphere. We ordered a bottle of Moroccan wine 'Excellence' and it was good enough to order a couple more. The back of the restaurant is set out as a garden, with a tree in the middle of the room. Atmosphere, friendly staff, highly recommended.

North African cuisine is hard to find in my part of the world, so we resolved to give this place a try when we returned to Arras. Down a side-street away from the main square, this is quite a small establishment. An array of snacks came with the drinks - olives, nuts, pickled vegetables etc.I tried a Lamb Tagine: basically a vegetable and lamb stew, which I enjoyed. The wife had a Cous-cous, which comprised a large plate of cous-cous, four skewers containing grilled meat, a dish of vegetables and a dish of chick-peas - I think she had the better meal! We'll return if we next visit Arras.

Our B&B host recommended this restaurant and we wished we could have eaten here more than once. The Tagine was superb and the cous cous excellent. Our only problem was that the serves were so huge, we couldn't finish our delicious meals!Very reasonable prices too.
