This restaurant is located on the main highway in Tusayan. It was a typical Mexican restaurant. We ordered a small side of guacamole, green chili stew and sopa de Albondigas (meatball soup). The food was good and spicy. The service was friendly. It was fairly expensive, but I'm sure every restaurant in the area is expensive. We enjoyed our meal.

Where to start? Normally I am not one to write negative reviews on TripAdvisor, but just had to share my thoughts on Sophie's. First of all, the menu is overpriced in comparison to almost all the Mexican restaurants we experienced in the Southwest. The normally free salsa and chips served pre-meal, are not free here - they incur an extra charge. The food was average at best. Finally, as others have noted in this forum, there seemed to be some very inventive math on the final cheque. When we realized that our bill was overpriced by about $10, we brought it to the attention of the person in charge at the cash register. His response was simply a shrug, with no explanation. He finally had our server make the proper adjustment - it seems that he had charged our party of four the mandatory 18% gratuity that is added to all bills for groups of six or more. There was no explanation on the bill, or apology forthcoming from either the server or the manager. Needless to say, there was much less than an 18% tip left by our party at the end. I would search for better eating options in Tusayan - this place strikes me as being a bit shady.

We dined here on our last evening, the menu was varied and catered for meat fish and vegetarian. Service was friendly, the place clean and portions generous.
