The food here is ok nothing amazing thought. I had the sayulita shrimp they had an interesting combination of flavors, on the description it said that they where wrapped with bacon and stuffed with Philadelphia cheese mines came wrapped with bacon but no cheese. They also had a sweet and sour sauce on top I couldn't figure out what it was, it tasted like squished cranberries with raisins I don't know what it was but it was interesting I did like their Tamarindo Michelada thought it was really good

We three middle aged Brits were in our final days in Mexico and had to book the Hotel Fray in advance to get away from the expensive coastal hotels in Semana Santa. We had visited Mexcaltitán earlier and eaten well at lunchtime in La Alberca so we're not very hungry. After we had checked into the hotel we freshened up in the room and I checked TA for local restaurants as we were tired after the day's exertions. I found this highly rated and affordable restaurant 24m away! We do not usually dine in the restaurant of the hotel we stay in but we were tired and it looked good. After freshening up we descended at 21:15 to the ground floor and found the big, modern restaurant quite busy so we took an empty bare (apart from tomato ketchup, salt and pepper) but clean linen tableclothed table by the window with a partial view of the Cathedral.Immediately the waiters arrived with the usual tacos, split limes, red chilli sauce and green cactus sauce but with real bread rolls and packets of butter too. We could not eat the tacos because we had no plates or cutlery but it took a minute to attract the waiters' attention to get them delivered (with apologies). It must have been a busy day for them and they were tired at the end of the day. The cutlery was heavy and wrapped in a linen napkin. The warm crusty bread was very welcome after two weeks of corn, although the 'butter' was a butter/margarine blend tiny portion. The menus were offered and we were asked what we wanted to drink. We chose the reasonably priced (170) Mexican XA Domecq Blancs de Blancs as a treat for potentially last decent meal in Mexico. It came shortly afterwards, presented for inspection, uncorked at the table and poured for tasting by my friend (all good) and poured out into the large fine glasses, Spanish style. The food was chosen and we thought we would splash out on starters (despite that lunch seven hours before), although ordered the courses in a haphazard way as I was initially hesitant. In order of ordering we ordered: my friend - Sopa de Cebolla (45) & Espagueti al Pesto (75); me - Pollo en Mole (105) - leg or breast was offered; our friend - Ensalade Caprese (69) and Láminas de Atūn Rasurado (at 115 the most expensive dish as he wanted fresh tuna, not tinned); then me an Ensalado de Atun (75). A few minutes later the waiter returned to say the Láminas de Atūn Rasurado was unavailable so our disappointed friend chose the simple Guacamole (52) instead at half the price, their loss. A bottle of sparkling water was also ordered by him too although not on the menu and potentially expensive. The soup came very quickly and my friend found it tasty but not a traditional French onion soup (not that it was described as one). The water came but it was still water (the same plastic bottle as was provided free in the room) so the waiter was beckoned to change it to fizzy and an expensive looking glass bottle appeared. My Pollo arrived (once again ditching my light vegetarianism as it is an appealing option) and, as my friend had started, I started and it proved delicious! Nice, thick and spicy! The chicken legs were really good too. Garnish was fresh crispy salad and rice. A good choice at a good price. Our friend's Guacamole took a while to arrive unfortunately so we shared our dishes with him. When it arrived it was quite generous and tasty. His salad came afterwards and was also good. As I was finishing my friend's pasta arrived which he found tasty although a bit small. My salad then arrived and was also quite fresh and tasty, although using tinned (in brine) tuna Ceviche style in a mound. We shared it around between us as I was still slowly eating my delicious chicken mole. We finished by 22:25 and felt unhurried as I finished off the tacos and sauces. The wine had gone down well and we were asked if we wanted anything else, so no hurry. We ordered the bill and thankfully everything was in order in the printed bill, including the water which was only 17 thankfully (355ml). The total bill was 628 so we paid by card and left a 40 cash tip which was appreciated by the waiter. We left sated and happy at 22:40 for a walk around the square, although everything was very quiet in this working city.Thank you again for your detailed review Mike! I will definitively look into the issues you've mentioned. Glad to hear that, overall, you had a good experience in our restaurant. It's been my pleasure to read your review, I'll make sure to translate and share your reviews with our staff!

This was a visit with my family and ordered the Zarandeado Fish, some tacos, schrimp, Tostadas de Ceviche and all were great. The zarandeado fish had the marinated flavor plus a nice smoky flavor, and for sure it was still swimming early in the morning!Very nice place to visit and have a good luch or dinner, a little pricey for the area.

This was our 3rd visit to 42 Loma. I am vegan and have twice before had the portobello burger plate and loved the salad, fries, and burger. The burger, served other times on a large bun, today arrived on a tasty, albeit smaller seeded bun. The mushroom was over-salted. The salad was very good. However, the sweet potato fries were small, shriveled, and over-salted also. As I said, I have always loved this meal. Today not so. I do want to commend the restaurant on the back and prime rib that my husband and my friend had today. They were very pleased with their dinners. And, as always, the service was very good.

The four of us shared several dishes family style so that we could taste several options. The staff was very accommodating and brought fresh plates between each new dish. We loved the chicken with risotto and the short rib choices. Also enjoyed the shrimp with a green coconut curry sauce. The bread that comes with the meal is fresh with a great green spread. We started with a couple of appetizers and found them to be just OK. We ordered the melted cheese with sliced bread and found it not very flavorful. And the sopas which were better than the cheese dish. We ended with the chocolate volcano dessert which was perfect. Service was fantastic. We will definitely be back!! Enjoy!
