After LA we thought we wouldnât get good Mexican again; we were wrong! We are staying in a nearby motel and instead of eating at their restaurant we read the reviews of this place and gave it a shot. Very impressed! Their margaritas are 100% authentic, and the food was so fresh and delicious. All very well priced too. We had the Tamales, Quesadillas and nachos. We are so pleased to hear that you were happy! Mexican food can be regionally specific and not everyone is pleased with our style. The original recipes when we opened 40+ years ago were my husband's, from his mother, as far as he was concerned it was home cooking. He's from East L.A. - she was from Silver City N.M. We've made a few changes over 40 years. Had to tone down the "hot" a bit in the very beginning - too hot for some, added some vegetarian meals, and another few things by "popular demand", but basically has stayed the same. Big THANK YOU!

The name does not indicate "Mexican cuisine," but the owners are Mexican American and serve authentic Mexican foods. When we were in Cambria a year ago, we finally tried Cambria Cafe. Would probably have tried it sooner had we realized we could get authentic Mexican food here. Anyhow, I had THE BEST Chili Relleno I'd ever had!Today we went for breakfast because I wanted authentic Huevos Rancheros. They were excellent! My husband ordered the scrambled eggs with ground chorizo mixed in. It came with rice, beans and tortillas. The flavor was excellent without being too spicy, and the chorizo was not at all greasy.Photos of Cambria 100 years ago adorn the walls. This is not a fancy place, but it is definitely a good place. Highly recommend it for simple casual meals and also for Mexican food.

Saw several locals eating here. Thought we would give it a try. Ordered the fish tacos which were awesome. Light flaky fish. Unbreaded so you really got the true flavors. The rice and beans were done right my daughter and I left happy. The service was good as well. Great place to stop just off the 101. South of Hearst Castle.

Authentic Mexican Food, maybe, but the taste is not there! I have been eating Chile Verde since I was a little burrito eater and Chile Verde is my upmost favorite meal.. THE CHILE VERDE: The sauce was very Dark Green and thick with Tomatillos and more than generous amount of 'Cilantro'. My first bite was like I had grabbed a handful of Cilantro and Tomatillos and stuffed it in my mouth. It was not spicy so obviously no Jalapenos were added and if any other spices were added they were lost. My wife (who is an excellent Chile Verde cook) told me that Cilantro was good for my STOMACH so I should be good for a couple of years after eating that .THE 'REFRIED BEANS': "NO" they were not refried. I have cooked refried beans and those were not. It was more like only smashed beans, no flavor to them and very very bland. I had to drown them with the Chile that came with the chips and lots of salt/pepper! THE RICE: the color was there but also no taste to them.NOW THE TWO STAR RATING: WAS ONLY FOR THIER MEXICAN AMBIENCE AND A VERY NICE, HELPFUL AND ATTENTIVE WAITRESS THAT WAITED ON US..

While the inside of this restaurant was cute....especially the "living room" area, the food was average. It was ok. Not bad. Not great. We both had burritos which were average. The wine was a good pour! We went here because we had attended a production across the street. I'm not trying to be negative but it was not a memorable meal. There are just too many other good places to eat in Cambria.
