I have eaten at the establishment several times and most recently yesterday. The food is average, but not bad. Where the problems lies is with flying insects. When friends and I visit, we almost always run into flies just cruising around the place. On our most recent visit, we had a honey bee flying around - that scared the heck out of us. I'm not sure if flies may be coming through the door or there is no real control, but I strongly recommend that that situation be remedied. The wait staff is friendly and so is the owner. So far as a recommendation to eat there it's your own decision - hopefully you'll go and the flying insect has been fixed.
Only stopped in because the parking lot was full at 6 PM on Friday and there were cop cars in parking lot so thought it had too be good....well had the chili con queso for appetizer excellent....had the seafood platter EXCELLENT....the toast almost tasted like a grilled cheese will definitely be back...
Traveling from the north to southern Texas I like to stop at local haunts. When in Texas eat tacos. This place is nothing fancy. It has no seating. No waitress. Just walk up and order a plate of street tacos south Texas style. I am sure there are better tacos in the area if you were to ask the locals, but this is the experience I wanted while in Texas. They are located across the street from HEB.
Only complaint is an over annoying waitress, Viviana, that didn't let you eat in peace. She's likewise rude to the other staff. Most great staff has left because of management s refusal to address complaints against her. I myself have complained more than once to restaurant owner, yet nothing is done. Other than that, if you request another waitress, you'll have a good experience.
It's rare that I get to South Texas, and when I do I like to find the places that serve what I call "Mexican seafood" - instead of the traditional Mexican food, it's cooking from the coastal areas of Mexico. This is a small little restaurant near a truck stop I happened to spend the night at, and I am so glad that I happened to stop here!I had the caldo de camaron - and I can honestly say it is the BEST caldo de camaron I've ever had - lots of shrimp in the soup, plenty of vegetables, and the broth was to die for! A bowl of soup with a side of arroz is almost too much food - it's really enough for two decent meals, or one huge, gut-busting, I need a nap after dinner-type meal. The price of the soup was quite reasonable ($7.95), the food was fresh, and the service was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant, and I can't wait to get back to the area to see what other delights may be on the menu!
