At Monte Alto we believe that feeding the soul is the most important thing. We do this by creating the best cakes in Huehuetenango, breakfasts for all tastes and a variety of sandwiches and pizzas for any occasion.
Taqueria is a great place for tacos and other Central American treats. I always order the carnitas tacos, which come with a small basket of chips and two kinds of dipping salsa. One if usually pretty spicy, but the other is a dreamy, creamy, delicious, eat-it-all-with-a-spoon avocado sauce. If I could just drink it I probably would. Their soups are good, nachos are okay, and the other food is also good. But bring on the carnitas for me every time. I'm a happy woman.
This seems to be a hole in the wall type place and it did not disappoint. I was a bit nervous to eat here but heard it was good. We gave it a try and it was very good. Tacos are small but they were tasty. Everything else was just ok.

Went with a group of thirteen friends and ordered fajitas for everyone. They were wonderful. Served somewhat family style. (See my photo.) They were served on an extra large cutting board with a variety of meats, cheeses, guacamole, and of course, cebollines (green onions). The staff was great and the restaurant was very cleaned with a great look. They may be a little slow, but worth the wait.

I do not understand how this place has so many good reviews! From inside it looks like Mc Donalds and it smells extremely like fried food. By the time you leave your hair will smell horrible. The burrito was very average and to charge 10 Q for a table spoon of guacamole is ridicolous. Very bad experience!Hi Miriam! We appreciate you taking the time to write. First let me say I'm sorry you didn't have a great experience. We just put a new industrial fryer in the restaurant, and it's still not in its final placement. So the fried food smell is spot on. Sorry that it ruined your experience. As for why the restaurant has so many good reviews, I would hope it's due to what the food stands for, promoting fair trade organic produce from local farmers, paying fair wages to staff, and generally, a nice dining experience. Apparently we didn't meet the mark with you though, and so we apologize sincerely. Hope you'll give us another shot some day, and regardless, thank you for supporting Guatemala's first socially responsible fast food restaurant!
