I was seeded by a friendly hostess, but unfortunately it was at a booth with a 12 plus inch tear in the seat. While I was waiting for a friend I was ignored for at least 10 minutes. They weren't busy at all, and yet no one offered me a drink. In fairness, I think they were just ramping up for the Friday night rush and they were still understaffed from the middle of the afternoon. My server was not very friendly in the beginning either. But after my friend arrived he was a little busier yet more attentive and friendly. I ordered the chicken quesadilla salad and I have to say it was excellent. I love the presentation, the freshness and the delicious dressing. My friend had a similar salad and was also very pleased. They need to do a little updating on their furnishings and a bit more training on there wait staff. I would return.

... and I was floored by the quality of the food and size of the menu in this hole-in-the-wall place in Pinellas Park. You can always tell when a restaurant is as busy as this place was even on Easter Sunday that they've had quite a following. Walk In Crowd and the place was jammed but the service was friendly in the food came out fast. So many different choices

Known for serving the freshest Tex-Mex food and world famous Smack My A** & Call Me Sally! hot sauce.
Stopped in basically because it was near our hotel, but what a great choice. The young lady who greeted us at the door and helped us order since it was our first time there was/is a great asset to that restaurant. I had a taco and my husband had a burrito and enchilada. Food was excellent and sauces were fun to try. Would have bought a couple but did not want to put them in my luggage. After we move to Florida we WILL be back!

Having moved here recently from Texas I'm having a hard time finding anything in the St. Pete area that compares. As such, and based on my Tex-Mex preference, Carmelita's is just OK. I tried their Chile Relleno's on the dinner menu and found that while it was flat like a pancake instead of being a whole stuffed Poblano pepper it was tasty and had plenty of flavor. The rice was bland (it always is, so I add salsa for flavor) and the refried beans were good. I did find the offer of corn as a side dish strange, for in the last 30+ years of eating Mexican food in Texas, it has never been offered to me as a side dish. Any way, my search goes on for really good Mexican food in Pinellas County.

This place has the best Mexican food I have had in Pinellas County. I have been to several Mexican restaurants and I can honestly say this was the best!!! The service was great. All the staff was friendly and actually happy. We had cheese dip, chicken fajitas, steak Fajitas, guacamole, salsa, refried beans, spanish rice, fresh tortillas, fried ice cream and I can honestly say... it all was amazing!!!I will be back often!!! Thank you!!!

Based on the reviews, we decided to give this place a try. We had previously driven by but didnât think much based on the exterior. It was delicious! Fast, friendly service and the food was fresh and tasty - I even liked the beans. Both my husband and I had the Mexican Trio to get a sample of everything. I would definitely go back!
