Pátzcuaro ( ˈpatskwaɾo (help·info)) is a large town and municipality located in the state of Michoacán. The town was founded sometime in the 1320s, at first becoming the capital of the Tarascan state and later its ceremonial center. After the Spanish took over, Vasco de Quiroga worked to make Pátzcuaro the capital of the New Spain province of Michoacán, but after his death, the capital would be moved to nearby Valladolid (today Morelia). Pátzcuaro has retained its colonial and indigenous character since then, and has been named both a "Pueblo Mágico" and one of the 100 Historic World Treasure Cities by the United Nations. Pátzcuaro and the lake region it belongs to is well known as a site for Day of the Dead celebrations.

This is a small 10 stool-at-the-counter restaurant located between Plaza Grande and Plaza Chica on Calle Irturbe. It doesn't start serving until 12:30 PM weekdays except Monday (closed), but that doesn't stop people from grabbing a stool inside at noon to be among the first served Tuesday through Friday. They open earlier on weekends and the story's the same. These are my favorite carnitas anywhere. Get there early and you get to pick your favorite pieces. Get there late and you don't eat. If you like pork, do NOT miss Carnitas de las Plazas. The food is usually gone by 1:30, so consider yourselves warned.

We had dinner here and would do so again. The servings are plentiful and delicious. A little on the slow side. Dinner for two including beer was less than $USD 20.00.Thanks for sending your comments, we are glad you enjoyed your dinner in our Restaurant in Patzcuaro, we are looking forward to have you with us again at Restaurante Doña Paca.
I have a hotel in Patzcuaro and I always recommend the Rancho de la Mesa for a Margarita, guacamole & Arrechera (classic marinated beef), they also have a delicious organic burger. I like to go in the late afternoon for the sunset and the amazing view of Lake Patzcuaro and the islands and surrounding mountains. They close early so plan an early dinner or mid day comida.Victoria, muchas gracias, esta es tu casa, gracias por seguir visitandonos!!!
Enchanting example of a typical courtyard home, complete with burbling fountain in the centre surrounded by rooms decorated with vintage furniture.Excellent quality, and value, lunch - 3 courses 100 pesos!Good coffee.

My terrible Spanish meant I only half knew what I was ordering so there was pot luck involved in what we got. For less than £10 we had 2 simple but very tasty traditional meals and 2 drinks. The service was excellent and they took card. Highly recommend.

We ended up at this restaurant by a recommendation from the hotel and it is right on the plaza. We really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere of the place. We donât recommend to eat outside as you get distracted with tons of people asking for money or selling things.

Beautiful, new restaurant with wonderful, Mexican/American food. Reasonably priced. As you face the Basilica, the restaurant is located on the left corner.
This is an attractive place. We ate on the patio and they had heat lamps strategically placed to keep it warm. There was a nice acoustic guitarist playing. The food was good, I had the grouper grilled in coconut milk and it was delicious and unlike other things I have had in Mexico. The wait staff was attentive even though they had a large tour group to contend with at the same time we were there. The prices were quite reasonable.

Casa Del Naranjo Restaurant is your best option in Patzcuaro downtown; Mexican, contemporary and Michoacan dishes make your culinary experience so tasty and great.
If you want a delicious fine dining experience, go here. The fish tacos were to die for, as was the chocolate fondant. I also had these amazing short ribs that were boneless and had a crunchy crust. Oh my! Their sopa Tarasco was the best I had in Michoacan. Excellent service (Angie was especially helpful) and we had a strumming minstrel one night. Nice wine by the glass and a small, but good mezcal list. We really liked it here. Yes, it's a little more expensive than some other restaurants, but it's worth it.Hello CraigThe Mexican food is delicious and the michoacan gastronomy is one of the best, and they know that they tasted the Tarascan soup and the charales and that short rib, special dish of this their house, creation of the chef Jesús Fraga and that they savored each one with special taste , it fills us with joy; Thanks a lot Craig for allowing us to be part of his experience in Patzcuaro.Always welcome.

Located on the Plaza Grande I love this restaurant. The service can be a bit slow at times but it is not a problem when you can sit under an umbrella and watch the world pass by. Inside the restaurant has many wonderful pieces of art on the wall and the staff are always friendly and eager to please. I have eaten the arrachera, which was ok. But the sopa Tarasca is really tasty. And if you wish to try them then charales are a good local snack. Thanks a lot for leaving your comments. We take our customer's opinions very seriously, so we are trying to find ways to improve the speed of the service. We're glad that you enjoyed your sopa Tarasca, is one of our specialties. Come back soon!!

Wonderful little hidden restaurant. 5 course tasting menu changes weekly we were told. Each course was a taste treat and well thought out.Textures were spot on for the most part.Pastry on the appetizer. Could of been crispier and fresh. Soup great , salad great flavor no severe criticism for myself maybe just a tiny bit too much dressing. Main had great flavors but was not served hot but more room temp and onion rings were not crisp.Dessert most disappointing! Pastry again wasnât freshly baked and custard had weak flavor. Still criticisms aside overall all good but needed fine tuning!
