El Portal

Discovered El Portal when passing thru from Lincoln to points east. Really good meals at good prices and fast service. Now it's a must stop anytime while passing thru and even a special trip now and then just for lunch or dinner. Great margaritas and tortilla soup, try the Special Dinner which has all the favorites. Look around Nebraska City a bit, it's a cute community with lots to see and do.

This is a one-of-a-kind downtown dining experience. Seats about 12 people and 3-4 at the counter and you wouldn't want it any other way. Marta greets you with a smile, and she is such a lovely person. The food is wonderful. My wife is mentally addicted to the Chiles Rellenoes (sp?) which are the biggest and the best in the area.

Kitchen is removed from front counter and staff stay in kitchen unless a customer is at the counter. I stood at the counter for about five minutes and then had to holler to see if the store was open. Food was delivered quickly and food quality was good. Disappointed that I had to request to be served.
