This is a small place off the main highway. Very popular with the local residents--lots of families on a Sunday (which was when we visited). A good selection of Tex Mex food, well prepared and plentiful. Friendly service. The chicken fajitas was especially good.
The Texican Cafe, an Austin original, began serving hungry Austinites in South Austin in 1988. Our "El Paso style" Tex Mex is deliciously unique. Then and now, our food philosophy remains the same- use only the finest and freshest beef, poultry, seafood,
We had a group of eighteen diners and the Texican Cafe staff handled us very well. The Texican is a new restaurant in Kyle, and from the looks of it will be there for a long time. The drinks were good and the food was tasty. The sour cream chicken enchiladas were very good. The salsa was spicy, and the chips were warm. I had the chicken tortilla soup and thought it was mediocre, but by and large the other people in the group thought the food was great.

Madame and I ventured in to Casa Maria on a rainy March Thursday evening not long ago, having wondered about the place since we moved to the area. Positive comments from a good friend encouraged us, however, and as it turned out we had a quite enjoyable dinner. The place is clean, friendly, and inexpensive; decor is on the plain side but that's fine with us. And it feels really authentic (we Anglophones were in a decisive minority, a good sign for this sort of restaurant) -- particularly when you get your order. My enchiladas suizas were as good as I've had anywhere, and Madame's two enchiladas (chicken, and cheese, as I recall) were a hit as well. The black beans were really fine; the rice on the enchilada plate was above average in taste. We shared a flan for dessert, and it was unusually rich and sturdy -- I really liked it. There is a full bar for beer, margaritas (my Presidente 'rita was first-rate), and a few wine offerings (vino, not surprisingly, is not the bar's top priority). Service was friendly and maybe just a little on the slow side, but then the place was doing a brisk business. After dinner we went out through the bakery, where there are lots of temptations; we came home with some sugary _orejas_ that were quite a hit the next day, and some good fudgy sugar candy too.Casa Maria - Kyle is part of a small chain in this area. Reservations for two are not accepted, but for larger groups I believe they would be -- in any event we were seated immediately. There is a lot of parking on-site; I believe all the major cards are accepted as well. The steady flow of locals suggests that Casa Maria succeeds at pleasing its clientele, in a significantly Hispanic community where Tex-Mex choices abound. We'll definitely return...

We eat hear about once a week and we always think the food tastes great. While the food is really good, we've been going less and less, due to poor service. Depending on what shift it is, the service can vary. Sometimes the person taking your order is very nice and helpful, while other times it seems as though you've offended the staff by simply walking through the door. Hopefully the service can become a little more consistent, because this food really is good at this place.
This small shop is so amazing! Not only is everything handmade and locally owned but the owners are simply awesome. They partner with the local middle school and hang art from students in their shop. I have had their scoops and Popsicle and all are divine. This is a must!!!!! Mango scoop is simply heaven. Super clean and well kept La Ola really has it figured out. Don't miss out on some sweet goodness! I can't wait to try more flavors.

Several decent Mexican restaurants have tried this location (an old house clumsily remodeled into a restaurant). An original craftsman-style house from the 1920/30s, it was remodeled first as an insurance office, then a pizza company, then a series of Mexican restaurants (changing names, but the same menus more or less... same ownership?) that could never survive with seating for 29 people inside (and two outdoor patios).Los Vaqueros Cafe and Grill is the latest. The menus has changed, more Mex than Tex. The food is good.

I have never had mushroom enchiladas. SOOO good! They were stuffed with lots of them! The green sauce was excellent, and plenty of cheese! The rice and beans needed extra hot sauce, but that's a good thing. Our granddaughter doesn't like spicy. Lunch specials only $6.50....great value!I saw a plate of fried shrimp go to another table....they were ENORMOUS!!

Casa Maria Mexican Restaurant and BakeryThe service and atmosphere was wonderful and the waitress was very friendly as well as polite. The food was great , my husband & I enjoyed eating the Combinacion Mexicanaplate a beef tostada, beef enchilada, beef crispy taco, and a cheese quesadilla, served with rice & refried beans. added a side of guacamole . My daughter ordered the Tostadas Plate: 2 tostadas with beans, beef, lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole served with rice. Drinks was sweet tea, Pepsi & water. The waitress kept coming to the table to check on us to see if everything was alright and if we needed anything . She also would see our drinks was getting low and would come and bring another one and sit it down on the table even before we would ask for a refill. The best waitress ever.Juliet & Frank WashingtonKyle, TX. 78640
