El Rey Azteca is now our favorite Mexican restaurant in the Wilkes-Barre/Wyoming Valley area. Everything is made to order, and everything is homemade! There is no sense of fast food here. This is a family-owned, family run restaurant. On this visit I had fajita quesadilla. It was loaded with fresh, succulent shrimp, well-seasoned chicken, and a hearty helping of steak. I had a berry sangria with fresh fruit -- a good drink with lots of flavor and well worth the price. I highly recommend this restaurant. It is close to the Mohegan Sun Arena, located in a strip mall by Ollie's and AAA, in front of the Wyoming Valley Mall.

We stopped overnight in Wilkes-Barre on a recent trip. We picked La Tolteca for dinner from a list provided by the hotel that was heavy on chain restaurants like Red Lobster, Chiliâs, Bob Evans, Olive Garden, Chipotle, etc. We wanted to eat somewhere that was not a chain restaurant like that. La Tolteca sounded promising, and their website looked good, so we went there. It was a great decision! At just after 6:30 on a Thursday evening in early June, we pulled into a packed parking lot and thought, Oh no, weâll have to wait a long time. But we were seated immediately. The restaurant is quite large inside (not apparent from outside) and has a lot of outdoor seating, so there was plenty of room. Lots of booths, so our table felt private. I had a taco salad with shredded chicken. It was a nicely fried and flaky taco shell with lettuce, cheese, tomato, chicken, and black beans, and was just what I was looking for. Husband had the enchiladas Los Cabosâwheat tortillas wrapped around cheese and avocados, topped with a sauce full of grilled shrimp and scallops. It came with a small interesting green salad. It was beautiful on the plate, and very delicious. The prices were excellent, tooâthis turned out to be a very inexpensive meal. Highly recommended for the next time youâre in Wilkes-Barre.

In contention for best Mexican food in the Valley, it's making a claim. It's not fancy, it's not proper, it's not pretentious. It's simple and delicious food with large portions and friendly service. I've tired a half dozen dishes here and pretty much loved each. My favorite so far is the Zocalo burrito, it's the best burrito they make and makes my mouth water just thinking about it. If you work in downtown W-B, live there or just spend time there and don't eat here regularly, I question your sanity.

don't normally give fast food restaurants four stars because it's just fast food. The reason I gave this particular one four stars is simply that the employees here are so friendly and professional. The one employee was training a new hire and both were so nice. The world needs more people like this. Thanks for the great visit Taco Bell Kingston
