Find out what Mexican restaurants to try in Kinderhook. Kinderhook is a town in the northern part of Columbia County, New York, United States. The population was 8,498 at the 2010 census, the most populous municipality in Columbia County. The name of the town means "Children's Corner" in the language of the original Dutch settlers (Kinderhoek). The name "Kinderhook" has its root in the landing of Henry Hudson in the area around present-day Stuyvesant, where he was greeted by Native Americans with many children. With the Dutch Kinder meaning "child" and Hoeck meaning "bend" or "hook" [in the river], the name literally means "bend in the river where the children are".

We were in the area to pick apples and needed to find a place to eat lunch. We happened upon the Columbia Diner on Route 9H just south of the roundabout. What caught my eye was the marque stating Mexican food. I'm always up for some good Mexican food especially if it is authentic. This fit the bill! The interior is what you would expect of a diner. There was a lunch counter, booths and tables. Nothing fancy but the facility was clean and well lit. The menu itself was typical of most diners. There was just about everything you could imagine. They had a sign board showing the daily specials and then there was the Mexican section of the menu.I got the Beef Chimichanga and my wife got the Chicken Quesadillas. Both entrees were accompanied by fresh (so hot we couldn't touch them) tortilla chips and a pico de gallo that was nothing short of fabulous. Both entrees were served on a plate with sides of refried beans and Spanish rice. The flavors were delicious and the food was well prepared. It arrived to us hot and in a timely fashion.I am so glad we stopped at this restaurant and will return when we are back in the Valatie area.

By coincidence I had to travel to Mexico last month and have fresh in my memory the extraordinary taste of their fabulous food. Pico de Gallo is as authentic as what I experienced in Mexico....it is the real deal. Owners Carlos and Moises make just about everything from scratch, including the mole and all the sauces. I had some fried sweet plantains with mole that were spot on. Then had the fish tacos....simply fantastic, with thin slices of mango and freshly fried strips of fish. Décor is simple and pleasant and service very friendly. The place is located right in front of the Hudson River so make sure you sit facing the water for a very relaxing experience . There is outside seating as well. Pico de Gallo is a keeper and well worth the trip.
Welcome to Destino Fiesta Mexicana! We are the new spot for yummy margaritas, happy vibes and thoughtful, market-style Mexican food.
They need to know what good Mexican food is... Even the Sangria was not very good! Geez.... The food was rather tasteless and not very authentic. I found nothing redeeming about this place... If you want good Mexican food - this is not the place todine.
Where to eat Pub food in Kinderhook: The Best Restaurants and Bars
This new place is a winner run by Chris Morales, who brings to the table the delightful flavors learned from his mother in Mexico. The cafe is tiny with just 3 tables next to big windows looking out onto the little village of Chatham. Chris is very friendly and accommodating. The basic menu is small, but Chris is happy to do gluten-free options like tamales or a "naked burrito," which is burrito filling over rice minus the tortilla, or other options for those with special dietary needs. Whatever you get, it will be made from fresh ingredients. Be sure to try the plantain empanada with Chris's special salsa! They also specialize in catering large parties.
