Reviews on Mexican food in Ixtapan de la Sal, Estado de Mexico, Mexico. Ixtapan de la Sal is a town and municipality located in the State of Mexico, Mexico. It is 60 km south of Toluca, the state capital. The word Ixtapan comes from Nahuatl. There are two theories as to the origin of the name. The first one states that it is composed of iztal, which means salt, and pan, which means over or in. The second one states that it comes from iztac, which means white, atl, which means water; and pan, which means in white waters. "de la Sal" is Spanish for "of salt".

We met our host Giovanni Millan who happened to speak excellent English. He was very friendly. We ordered the steak and the rib dinners which were both excellent. Both beer and spirits were available. The cost of the meal was very reasonable. Would definitely recommend.
We ate here in our visit to Ixtapan de la Sal. A store lady recommended this restaurant that is within a downtown hotel with the same name. The food is home made and is really good with a nice staff that is very friendly. As said in Mexico is Nice, Beautiful and Cheap ( Bueno, Bonito y Barato).

Dining in Ixtapan de la Sal is a memorable experience. Our on-site, bistro-style restaurant offers traditional Mexican cuisine as well as creative International dishes in an open and relaxing atmosphere.
so many dishes to choose from, and all are delicious.Sunday brakfast, they set the restaurant in an amazing huge place.
I have visited Ixtapan de la Sal a eek ago, and to my great surprise found that i was recommended a new Seafood restaurant.: El timon. The place is really quite new; it opened some time this year and it does not look very sophisticated, but it is neat and clean. The food was very good and the service family type, but excellent. The owner apologized for some details, like not yet being able to pay with a credit card and invoked the newness of the place, which at that point was still mainly visited by locals and not by tourists.
Great authentic Mexican food. If your looking for great food I highly recomend this restaurant . Friendly staff and absolutely the best food in town. I recommend Chile en Nogada and the Lima Water itâs so delicious!!!!!

Always drive thru that town, keep looking at this nice place. This tie I decided to stop and try it. It was a good decision. Great fish very extra generous portions and low price without sacrifice for quality or taste. Me only 2 wishes: They had no ceviche and not planning on making it.... and only one type of fish available at least that day.

The food was quite flavorful. The spices used to season the meats, the fresh produce used to create the dishes all make for a delightful dinner. I do think the patio area (maybe it's better inside) lacks a certain ambiance but the food is good enough to make that a non issue.I tried the cecina, chipotle meatballs and chalupitas as appetizers.

We just came back from an early Saturday dinner there (because they close at 8pm). I wasn't overly impressed with the food or service. It was good, don't get me wrong, but it is definitely not a "destination dinner" place. My companion had the "cowboy" cut steak. It was average to good, but did come out of the kitchen cooked to her specifications. I had the turkey with mole - again, average to good. Service was variable. I try not to compare pueblos to Mexico City service, but it was kind of frustrating slow and inattentive. If I come back to IdlS I would eat there again, but with expectations lower than indicated in other TA reviews

Wanted to try some local cuisine and chose this. Not disappointed. Signage is above on the building, easy to miss if you're walking. Had margaritas and mole enchiladas, along with fresh guacamole and chips. The manager had Pico de gallo made for us Americans because the sauce has habaneros peppers, without asking and that was delightful. Juan was a great server! Thank you very much for your comments. All the staff really apreciatte that. We hope to see you next year and please share your experience with your friends because the American Guest are always welcome. Best regards
