Friends of ours took us here because itâs their favorite place for Mexican food. We werenât impressed. Chips and salsa were just ok, nothing special. I had tacos, carnitas and Al pastor. The carnitas had no flavor. The Al Pastor was a little better but just ok. The corn shells were soaked with juice/grease and falling apart to where I couldnât even pick them up and eat them. My husband had the burger nachos which werenât what was pictured on the menu and again were just ok. The meat had a funny flavor to it. The best part of the meal were the side of fried plantains. They were cooked perfectly. I wouldnât go back here again unless it was Because we were meeting friends. There are better Mexican places in the area.

The Detroit Shipping Company is an innovative restaurant space made of shipping containers. There are a number of food vendors there, including one serving excellent Thai food and one serving very good Tex Mex, as well as a Nepalese dumpling vendor and one serving more traditional BBQ type food.Well worth a stop there for lunch. We had a great tofu red curry dish as well excellent vegetarian dumplings and a super Tex Lex salad, all in a very clean and chill environment not far from the Eastern Market

I went here with a friend and we both were happy with it. We had tacos, I had chicken, fish and veggie. My favorite were the chicken. She liked the steak tacos. They are small but inexpensive. Good service. Some of the seats were a little low for the table, especially at the high top.

Just received a phone call---four hours before our Saturday night reservation. Returned the voice message, and the person stated that they were calling to inform me that "chef is not accepting credit cards tonight. Cash Only." WOW! Saturday night/busiest night out. Reservation made days ago through YELP, and confirmed by me via YELP this morning. I questioned the last minute nature of this "announcement." She said that they had tried to reach me via e-mail, but it had been returned as undeliverable by YELP....weird, since I had no problems communicating with YELP. In any case, WHY would you do this on such late notice, when people who have made plans (mine involves a friend driving in 45 minutes from the suburbs)?? Even if you have an objection to credit cards for whatever reason (did you just get your fee raised?), you don't take it out on your customers. You change your website to indicate that you are a cash-only establishment. The caller offered to cancel my reservation. REALLY? Where else are we going to go on such short notice??!! Really, really poor form. I had highly recommended this restaurant to my friend, based on a number of outstanding dining experiences in the past. Will probably not return after tonight.

Five of us ate there and all had a great meal at a great price. I haven't tasted better Mexican food outside of Mexico. Staff is friendly and eager to please. Two of us shared a meal...extra plate brought out without being asked or charging extra. Best lime margaritas ever...not too sweet or too weak!. Ordered 1/2 liter for the 3 adults to share...what a deal at $13! Left a Yeti cup on the table... manager raced a block to catch up with us and return it. Thank you all!

Wow this restaurant was great. We had a very large family reunion dinner here. People were greeting each other--laughing talking--eating--drinking--so much chaos. Yet the food was served hot and to the right person. The waitstaff smiled and really went out of their way to get things right and took all the chaos in stride. The restaurant is in an old part of Detroit --which wasn't so old when we were kids. The area has really cleaned itself up. Thank you so much!!!

This is our second visit to El Barzon. The first time was very good - typical speed for a busy restaurant and good food. This time the restaurant wasn't full. Our waiter, Pablo, was great...right there whenever we needed him. My Caesar salad and lasagna were very good. My husband said the veal dish and the seafood appetizer were excellent. I'm sure we will return again more than once.

Like others, I was looking forward to our dinner at Taqueria Mi Pueblo. It was recommended by a coworker and received such great acclaim. Our experience is summed up as disappointing. The food (tostadas and quesadillas) came out fast. Maybe too fast? There was no flavor in anything. Nothing. The tostadas looked good but were described as bland. My quesadillas were totally void of flavor and spice. Rice and beans were just as boring. As we labored through this meal, we realized we had been here years before and had a similar, unimpressive experience. We won't be coming back. There are many worthy places to get your Mexican food fix. This is not one of them.
