I do not leave a lot of 5 star reviews as most places can always do better. Martinez is deserving of 5 stars. I went in for supper. This is clearly a lunch place and a local detective who was grabbing some take out told me their lunch buffet is well worth the trip. However, I can't get over for lunch so supper had to do.I eat at a lot of Mexican places. I really enjoy Mexican food. I was recently in Reno, NV and had a couple of excellent Mexican meals. You wouldn't necessarily expect a great Mexican meal in Kankakee but if not, you would be wrong. This was some of the most authentic Mexican I've ever had and there were several menu items I'd never even heard of. They have intestine and tongue as meat choices. I did not try these but it's the only place I've ever been that serves these. There is a Mexican grocery next door. Parking is easy. Service was great. The menu is not your typical menu with tons of options and combinations. It's a real menu with real options.I cannot recommend enough. This was excellent and prices are very reasonable.
At Taco John's®, we serve traditional Mexican food-with a twist. By fusing bold American flavors with south-of-the-border spice, we've defined our signature menu. From our trademark Potato Olés® and freshly prepared tacos to our infamous breakfast burrito
Always good service and food is consistently good. Great Place to get fast Mexican Chain Food. I really enjoy the free salsa bar. My daughter who does not like Mexican Food enjoys the boneless wings so it makes it a great place to go for our family.
This is a little hole in the wall shop with only half a dozen tables and no ambiance to speak of, but the food is worth it! We got a dozen assorted tamales for $9, which I think is a great deal! They were maybe a little heavier on the masa than I would make them, but that made them very filling. They have the tamales all made up, and you can get them heated there, or heat them at home. I also got an order of the nachos, which were tasty and the burrito and torta were large and had great flavor.
The service was prompt and friendly. The food was served quickly and hot. The chicken Cortez was tasty as well as the chicken fajitas. The servings were generous. The nachos were very good and obviously made fresh.

I was craving quick Mexican food and didn't want to look for a Taco Bell, and didn't have time, so based on a couple of recommendations I went to Taco John's. The restaurant is fast food style setup where you order at the counter. The cashier was friendly and greeted me when I approached the counter. I ordered a Super Burrito Meal, which came with potato rounds. I took a seat and waited for my name to be called. It didn't take long to get my food so I went to the counter and grabbed my tray. The Super Burrito was just okay but I was more disappointed in the potato rounds. It was obvious to me that the grease needed to be changed in the fryer. I didn't even finish all of them.Honestly, and in my opinion, Taco Bell is better.
I enjoy the food here very much. The staff is very friendly here. The stack taco is very good. It is my first time here.
Ate here when it first opened in early 200 0s and it was the best mexican I had ever had....popped in there recently and it is a shell of what it used to be. My burrito had as much steak as their tacos used to have - bland and over twice their original prices.I understand prices would be higher, but the food wasn't even close to what it used to be.That will be my last trip there.
This small restaurant is located in a strip mall. The food is very authentic. I love their fish tacos, they are excellent. Their margaritas however are terrible. Lacking any tequila taste, they come in a mason jar which is offputting for a Mexican restaurant. Also the service can change a lot. One visit it can be great and the next it can suck. Unfortunately on our last visit the service was terrible. Once our food arrived we never saw the waiter again. We like coming here and enjoy the food but they need to step up on the service.

Fabulous working lunch today. I highly recommend this place and their Seafood Molcajete. If you like it spicy, ask for it with their special spicy sauce vs ranchero. I would not go by the prior reviews. Give this place a shot. You wonât regret it. Iâm pretty darn picky about Mexican food. I will be back for sure!

Standard menu, weak margaritas, nothing special about the decor, service, or food. Not outstanding or bad. There are better choices in the area in the same price range.
