Many of us have horrible memories of the high school cafeteria with the old women wearing hairnets and the horrid mystery food. There are people willing to pay for that experience and give it high marks. It's called Vips. For a city with such a reputable cuisine as Veracruz to have this listed as its #1 restaurant--or anywhere in the Top 200 for that matter--shows that there are plenty of people who leave their tastebuds at home when they go out to eat.One important tip for those who truly must eat here. Always choose the cheapest thing on the menu. No matter what you order it's all going to taste the same anyway, so why waste money on an expensive meal with no flavor at all?

Mexican cuisine inspired by Veracruz. We highlight the flavour of each regional ingredient by using avant garde techniques.
Great lunch with some friends. Although pretty expensive for Mexico it was worth the money. Wine was great (local white wine) and the food was great as well, however the shell-less crab was incredible! Downsides were the amount of employees walking around and staring at the table occasionally. This made it rather awkward since our group of 5 were the only ones in the restaurant. Most shameful was the coffee. A shame they do not know what an espresso is here, instead of that you'll get a strong Americano in a small cup. This is not in line with the ambiance and grade of the food of the restaurant and I would recommend DOS to upgrade their coffee experience by getting some wonderful local coffee from Quatepec, get a good espresso machine and train their employees to be barristas. I wouldn't see average since the food was "very good" but because of the downsides it wasn't very good either.

This is a very untouristy local joint. Try the beef dish that looks like a soft taco. skip the green and hot sauces sitting at the table- (saw a couple of flies buzzing around). The waiters are very friendly and helpful. They have a good selection of drinks.

La Capsantina is a Restaurant with a Traditional Mexican Cuisine elaborated on a Contemporary way. It offers a new and fresh concept to the Veracruz - Boca del Rio metropolitan area.
This is the nicest restaurant in Veracruz/Boca del Rio I have reviewed. Service is excellent, the menu an unusual blend of contemporary and traditional (even pre-Hispanic) and the view is among the nicest in town. We had driven past the Capsantina quite a few times before stopping because we couldn't get over the loss of a great Thai restaurant that it replaced. When we did stop we were pleasantly surprised by the menu and the presentation. There was one item which made me vow to return only a few days later: the pre-Hispanic dish, probably the only one in town. Now, I have eaten roasted crickets before purchased in small paper bags in Xalapa, and I enjoyed them, but was surprised to see them on the menu. We sampled soups (the bean soup is special) and I ordered a "side order" salad that was almost too much, and like everything else quite tasty. If you want the best view and the best service I advise not waiting until fashionably late to dine. Late afternoon was ideal, and tables with a view of the Gulf were plentiful.Hello thank you very much! for your comments. See you soon.

Went here on the first night in veracruz. Food was tasty. Music was good. Server Luis Maldonado was very patient and helpful explaining the different foods on the menu. I am not familiar with veracruz cuisine and needed some explanations on the different ways they prepare the fish.Hello, thank you very much for your visit and your comments, we hope to see you soon!

After 4 years of not visiting Veracruz, I read some negative comments about this restaurant. I'm glad I still decided to come here again. I love it!!! We asked this time "Pulpo con pure de camote", "Ceviche coco mango", "Platano relleno de mariscos", "Tarta de elote", "Ensalada de mariscos", "Cerveza Sur". 2 people $850 mxp. Would go back again and again. Hi, thank you very much for your visit and your comments, we hope to see you back soon!
