The population was recorded as 11,700 by the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Nelson County. It is named for the pioneering Bard brothers. David Bard obtained a 1,000 acres (400 ha) land grant in 1785 in what was then Jefferson County, Virginia, from Governor Patrick Henry. William Bard surveyed and platted the town. It was originally chartered as Baird's Town in 1788, and has also been known as Beardstown, and Beards Town.

Two Taco Bell locations in little ol' Bardstown. The location closest to Kroger is always packed. The drive thru is always busy. The newest location by WalMart is new but on my first visit a few days ago, the dining room was small and dirty. Every table was dirty, food on floor, spilled drink, etc. Only one cash register open and line was always 5-6 deep. Hope they get it together at this locale soon. Very small

This place deserves to be #1 in Bardstown. We came across this place on the way back from the Maker's Mark Bourbon Distillery. The portions are huge and the food is excellent. Also the prices are fantastic too. We went on a Monday so there was 15% discount on meals. We both ordered the double Chimichanga meal. So much food which is awesome. We still would have been pleasantly full with the single order. My husband ordered the 32oz lime Margarita. He loved it! I had the Bahama Mama, so good. They give out a generous portion of yummy chips and salsa on the house with free refills. Definitely one of the best mexican places we've ever been to. The service is fantastic as well.

We were passing through Bardstown after a weekend trip on the Green River and were dressed for casual dining where they would be friendly despite our lack of hygiene. There were few options in the area between Mammoth Cave and Lexington still open at 8:30 at night other than chain fast food restaurants. We were excited to find this Authentic Mexican restaurant with super friendly service. We were seated at a high top in the bar area which was very quiet on a Monday evening, where we could watch some football while we dined on the chips and salsa. OUr group tried the Combo Enchiladas Supremas, the Chimichanga Supremas, and the Chicken and Shrimp Fajitas. All were delicious and very filling, even for my two college aged boys after a weekend of kayaking. I would recommend this location to anyone wanting tasty mexican food and friendly service.

This has to be the worst Mexican food I have had the displeasure to eat! The food was Luke warm and the Chili Colorado was very salty. My wife had the Chicken Enchiladas and her comment about her meal was that she could have gotten a better Enchilada dinner from the frozen section at the grocery store.The salsa appeared to canned tomato purée with absolutely no flavor. We tried to Doctor it up the bottled hot sauce and lime juice to no avail. The cheese sauce was thin and flavorless.The service was not good. We received the check and set our credit card on top of it. The waiter walked by our table twice and didn't take it to the cashier. I saw the waiter sit at table by the kitchen, get a set of utensils and appear to sit down and eat. I took the check to the cashier and handled it myself. Customer Service was none existent.Obviously this restaurant has no clue what good Mexican is and WE would never go back!We wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. If we could have rated it a zero we would have!

We love this Authentic Mexican Restaurant! The servers are very attentive and the food is perfectly prepared. Of special note is the quickness of the cook and wait staff to deliver a very tasty meal.
