We had stayed in the wonderful parador in Leon and I suppose we expected all parador so to be wonderful. We were, then, rather disappointed by the Parador de Vilalba.The room (we had paid for a superior one ) was lovely but oh dear, the food was terrible. We were on the half board package. This had worked so well for us in Leon, as it is called the 'Gastro tariff' the restaurant in Vilalba was closed, we were told, and were directed to a little cafe in a dungeon. It was lunchtime so we had a bowl of greasy soup and asked about the dinner menu. The waiter pointed to two sections of the very small menu and told us 'you can have one from this section and one from this section.' None of it appealed - it was all fish, and although we like fish, we like choice more.We went back upstairs and found the main restaurant to be open after all, so we asked at the desk if we could dine there and the answer was'No.'!!??!! We immediately cancelled dinner and found a nice restaurant.Paradors should not advertise a visit as GASTRO when they can't come up with the experience.

This neighbourhood restaurant is bright and clean, and the service is friendly...but it misses the mark.Three of us had a stiff g and t each, we shared two starters (bbq vegetables and croquettes), mains were pizza, paella and spag bog...we didn't bother with puddings.There was nothing wrong with the food, it was just very ordinary. With a tip, I paid â¬75 (say, £56/57), not bad, but we won't bother going again when we're next in Lugo.

Nice place. Kitchen is open before other resturants.Just 2 minutes from the Alberguie.The food is good. Quite a wide menu.Reasonable prices.Only problem was the two children rolling around the floor, insisting that the TV channel be changed to suit them. Children shouldn't be in a bar at any time.

Fuimos a una comida familiar y era un menú cerrado. Todos los platos eran innovadores y estaban muy ricos. En nuestro caso nos cerraron con biombos en el comedor para tener un poco de intimidad. La atención de los camareros es maravillosa.Lo recomiendo totalmente.

On the recommendations of diners on TA, we dined here on a Saturday night recently. When we arrived at 8:30 pm, we noticed that the whole of the downstairs was empty and were looking forward to being seated at one of the lovely tables downstairs as we were early and were wanting just a quick dinner. We were promptly ushered upstairs into a rather large, empty room! Initially we thought it that it would soon fill up. We ordered the food from a rather surly maitre d. Both the fish dishes I ordered were suddenly not available even though we were not informed of this when we put in the order. The food arrived, nice, well presented..... also lovely local wine from the local Ribeira Sacra region, albeit very small serves. Well, after 2 hours, still no other diners! We felt distinctly unloved must say, in an uninviting room with ZERO atmosphere. To sour our impression even more, when we left at around 10:30 pm, there were young diners downstairs with a vacant table next to them and as most Spanish dine late and make an outing of it, we assumed that this particular table was earmarked for other guests perhaps not for 'extranejo!'.So, overall, good food, but would have been so much more enjoyable if the attitude of the staff was different.

Been now three weeks in Spain and what has characterised eating out had been: good food, friendly service and leisurely eating.Offered two menus; the Spanish one had a menu of the day, the English one did not...hmmm.Usually when we have asked help on the wine we are offered a low to mid range. Here, it was upper end.Our first course was taken away before we had finished, with the waitor standing beside the table till I finished.The main course (Hake) was so salty that for nearly the first time ever I sent it back. The second attempt was not much better, and I lost half my fish..Just so pleased to get out of the place.. Shame.

If not for trip-advisor and other guides, as a visitor to Lugo you would miss-out on locations like this one. In an unsuspicious street, behind a nice entrance you'll find a bar, and in the back a large busy restaurant - reservations are helpful. Great food and service.

Is not in the old city center surrounded by big walls but it pays a visit! Excellent food!!! Big amount of fresh calamari fritti (calamares de la rÃa a la romana). The tempura is not specially interesting. The provolone was tasty but very simple made in the oven with some mushrooms. The rice was delightful, well cooked, tasty and we ate it all! Homemade desserts... original and tasty: we loved âEsenciaâ with pistacchio and black tea icecream!

This is one of the best Assador Restaurants that I have experienced. Their specialty is the fresh Lamb al horno which is superb. Also great appetizers like Chipirones en su tinta, tomate slices with ventresca de Atún, olive oil, opinion, Modena vinegar. Great wine cellar.Expensive, but excellent. Free parking.
