The reason for the many positive reviews are probably more a craving for a change of Italian fare of great pastas and wines that this region has to ofger rather than for the quality of this joint. Don't get me wrong, the beer is good (although nothing to compare with the top micro breweries) and desserts are not bad neither, but it goes downwards from that point. perhaps we should have sticked to safer options, but the stinco(pork shank) as well as chicken were very average. The service was also not great with waitresses forgetting a lot of things including drinks and cutlery. next time, I would stick to a few beers and perhaps some snacks, but definately no meals for me.

Vincenzo and his sona Giancarlo and Franco make really great pizza, pasta (emphasis on seafood), crostoni and salads. Over the years that I have been going here, the pizza has gotten better and better. The owners are very welcoming and I always feel well cared. Good prices, nice family atmosphere, reliably great pizza, and I have eaten pizza all over Italy. Highly recommended for a casual dinner

Don't come here for atmosphere but what excellent value! Bright efficient service and a huge variety of pizzas. We were the only tourists, all the rest being local families. BUT some of the dishes are well below satisfactory. It is a matter of choosing carefully: avoid anything that might come from a shaker, such as garlic or herbs. Why in a place like this don't they use the fresh ingredients? Ham dishes were very good, e.g. pizza prosciutto crudo.

Terrific food. Homemade cakes and tarts for breakfast, seasonal menu very good value, traditional tuscan food with a twist, it's always good and we eat there every week. Starters from â¬5, pasta dishes â¬6-8, main dishes â¬9-15. quality wine from their enote
The restaurant equivalent of the 1974 Holland football team: everything here oozes confidence, class and flair.Every dish at our table hit the spot. The waitress was intelligent and fun. The atmosphere was perfect. The chef, quite clearly, is the Johann Cruyff of Tuscan cooking. Get in!

There are probably better gastronomic temples even in this, the Casentino Valley; but we always go back to "Filetto". First of all is its position in the charming main square of Stia, portico-lined and with the Appenines as a background. Then there is the absolute lack of pretense: the last time we ordered papardelle sul cinghiale for all three of us and an large earthen pot was placed in the middle of the table. Even with healthy appetites we couldn't possibly have finished the contents! Then it was the turn of roast lamb for me, a skewer of pork for my husband and stewed wild boar - cinghiale again - for our guest. As a side-dish, I ordered black cabbage, sauteed in oil and garlic, the others white beans which are pretty much a Tuscan staple. Everything was very good but even here we had to resort to "doggy bags" when no one could manage a clean plate. No problem: my husband made a delicious ragout for the pasta the next day out of the assorted left-overs.Wine, of which we asked for a small bottle, was instead plunked down on the table in an already opened bottle which was about two thirds full. A smile from the waitress and a comment: "finish this one off and then we'll see about another." This might be a put-off for some but I find it totally acceptable and perfectly suited to the atmosphere of authenticity of the place in general. No room for anything but an espresso at the end of the meal. The bill: 17Euros each! We'll go back, probably next spring when the road over the Consuma is a lovely and easy drive out of Florence.

The exhibit on Jacopo del Casentino in 2014 was the occasion for our visit to Pratovecchio, and we made our reservation at La Tana degli Orsi a month in advance. The menu offers a wide selection and there were specials too. The choice was not easy. While we awaited our first course, we looked around at all the teddy bears on the shelves. So thatâs where the name comes from! The hostess, Caterina, brought a delicious small tortina with cheese and nuts. We had been tempted by the fiori di zucca as our first course but decided that we had to have tortelli since we were in the Casentino. They were splendid. The delicate homemade pasta, like large hand-cut ravioli, was filled with pigeon meat and diced zucchini and served with butter and sage. One of our seconds was the spiedino di fattoria, which included pork, beef, veal, and chicken, all tender chunks just off the grill (and not overcooked), with a salad of olives, tomato, and potato. The other secondo was the scaloppa di baccala baked in aluminum foil with tomatoes, capers, black olives, and yoghurt. We did not order dessert but were served small coffee custards instead.Any visit to Pratovecchio MUST include La Tana degli Orsi, but advance reservation is essential. The management wisely restricts the number of diners to what the small staff can handle. We saw close to twenty people (not including the 35 teddy bears) but there was room for at least ten more. Nevertheless, during our meal the hostess politely turned away half a dozen people at the door.

We were for a holidays in this charming city Stia and this was our most favorite restaurant. Firstly because of the atmosphere, secondly the waitress who can speak English fluently (what is not so common in Italy). Food was really good and not very expensive.

Tried the restaurant as it is under new management, and we went with friends for Sunday Lunch. Locals had told us in advance that the portions were small, and the prices were higher than other restaurants in the area, so we thought that quality would be higher. However this was not the case. Fish main course was overcooked and my main stinco needed seasoning and would have been tastier with some jus. All main courses lacked colour which could have been added with garnish or sauce, and so were not appealing to look at. We did not have desserts. Cost with wine for 4 people was â¬129. This was higher than we would expect to pay in Stia-Pratovecchio. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Most diners appeared to be from out of town. Our friends agreed they would also not return.

Caranbar never fails to deliver a wonderful dining experience. The food is always delicious, the owner who is warm and gracious is always helpful with suggestions and accommodating for some minor substitutions and the wine menu is great. The "house" is a Rosso di Montalcino. You cannot beat the value.
