I have to say the the young lady who served us could not have been more obliging or helpful which was more than could be said of the manager. We were 1 of 3 couples in the restaurant so there was no excuse of the kitchens being overworked. The main course(cod) and the vegetables wereovercooked to the point of being inedible - my wife had more trouble than myself. On complaining to the waitress she was full of apologies. On receiving the bill we noticed we had been charged the full rate for the main course, we complained and were given a E2 refund on a E22 meal. Whilst the waitress could speak English the manager either couldn't or didn't want to - the attitude was "they are only tourists and won't be back again!

Wandering around the pretty little town of Ponte de Lima, we spotted this small restaurant tucked away, as the name implies, near the town wall. It looked traditional and had an interesting menu, so we came back for dinner and weren't disappointed. It's a family run place, with madame in the kitchen. We nibbled good bread and olives with our wine while waiting for the seafood and bean stew. I think this must be something of a signature dish: it's enormous! And comes with rice too. It's also very tasty, with a good amount of seafood. We enjoyed all this plus wine, water and coffee - with a total bill of 31 euros. We had been well fed, warmly welcomed and efficiently served, and knew we had had a bargain!

Lovely location overlooking the river although the restuarant itself is a bit featureless.Main reason for choosing it was that it was adjacent to our hotel and gave us the opportunity to watch the Champions League.Service and food were reasonable, main highlight was guy whom we assumed to be owner who was a big Sportling Lisbon fan and spent time with us chatting about his teams troubles.Suited our purposes for that evening but not one of the highlights of our trip.

We went here for dinner with a group. The 'free' starters were laid up on the table waiting for us. We ordered a variety of meat and fish dishes, most people opting for the half portions. Prices were amongst the highest we'd seen in Portugal including Porto so I guess the starters were included and not really free. The table was literally groaning under the weight of a lot of meat, potatoes and rice. The meat was well-cooked and tender, there was just too much of it for everyone, including for a few of our group who are no strangers to a large meal. Not very inspirational food or surroundings.

We were recommended this restaurant by the owners of the villa we stayed at and it did not disappoint! The food was freshly prepared, delicious and well presented. Impeccable, friendly service and for what we had, good value for money. We enjoyed it so much, we went back a couple of nights later!

The first thing that comes out when you arrive at Açude is the location. Next to the river, it is definitely a privileged location, and if you have the time, you should definitely take the opportunity to have a walk across the river before or after your meal. The place itself is nice decorated and big windows overlooking the river, and if you can, make sure to ask for a table near the windows. Since I got in the service was excellent, not sure if it was because there was not many people that night, but the service was definitely very good.Last, but definitely not the least for a restaurant, the food was amazingly delicious. All the starters and main dishes were excellent and this is definitely a place to go back one day.Truly recommended.

We visited this restaurant again last night (visited last in July 2015) and I am very pleased to report that they are maintaining their very high standards.Once again the service, wine and food were excellent - in particular the beef medallions were outstanding.Unfortunately this restaurant is a little tucked away and I would therefore suggest that you make the effort to seek it out - I'm confident that you will not be disappointed.

Dear customers, Will be closed for holidays Reopen on 7th day of november 2015 Thank you for your understanding (Management)
The best thing about this place is the interior décor. It looks like a movie set for "Zorro". The second best thing is the young man (presumably the son or nephew of the owner) who waits on table. He is the only person in the establishment that knows a bit of English. (The menu is in English, however, but no Spanish spoken here, by the way, or even understood). Now let me get to the food. We ordered steaks cooked in wine, which my guidebook said was a specialty of the house. The steak arrived. They were tough as shoe leather, and smothered (as seems to be the tradition in this country) in cheese, ham, and an egg sunny side up. You had to drill deep to find the meat. We weren't able to finish or even eat very much. The wine, however, suggested by our waiter, was first rate. It appears to be a restaurant mainly frequented by locals, but of course at this point Ponte de Lima is not yet a major tourist destination. Too bad, it is a lovely, lovely place.

As a group of three friends we had a splendid first trial at this restaurant on a Sunday lunch. The restaurantâs site and setting is fabulous! The refurbished stone house where the restaurant functions was well recovered with good architectural taste. The surrounding gardens are very well kept, enriching oneâs experience. The main interior of the restaurant has a great layout and the fireplace located at the entrance is fantastic! It is beautiful, as well as functional - it warms up the restaurant making it cozy. âA Carvalheiraâ is very sought out, thus one absolutely has to book in advance. The staff are friendly and helpful. For starters we chose the seasoned boiled squid tapas, as well as the cured ham, accompanied by âbroaâ - all splendid! For main course we chose the roasted porkâs leg, served with roasted potatoes, delicious white rice and green sauted vegetables. Absolutely divine! For dessert we had âpudim Abade de Priscosâ (a delicious conventual sweet pudding), as well as cheese. It was a âheaven on earthâ Sunday lunch well savoured! Highly recommend this Restaurant for food lovers!
