Discover Restaurants offering the best Mediterranean food in Nouakchott, Mauritania. The Saharan city of Nouakchott was a small fishing village until 1957, when Mauritania attained independence. The new capital city of a young country, Nouakchott has changed quite a bit since the Sixties, with mosques, government buildings, and street markets rising up out of the desert sand. Spread out over land that constantly being encroached upon by massive dunes, and inhabited by a nomadic people that don't keep their tents pitched in one place for very long, the city is always in flux.
Things to do in Nouakchott
This is a great place to have breakfast, lunch, or a coffee. The owner, Rita, is pleased to offer special orders for those who may have dietary restrictions such as vegetarian options. The menu consists of several different sandwiches that you cannot find elsewhere in Nouakchott. They also offer ice cream and beverages that are shipped in from Spain. Speciality drinks like the fruit smoothie or frappés are deliciously refreshing in the heat of Nouakchott.Thank you for the review and we are happy you had a pleasant experience...
One of the better restaurants in Nouakchot. Their seafood salad was one of the best I tried (and I have been exploring this menu item in quite a few restaurants). The couscous with meat was not only flavourful and juicy, but plentiful to feed more than 2 people, although it was a single portion. The service was impeccable and ambiance is exquizite while simple. They should work on their lightning, but its more of a local tradition than anything, probably. Perfect for dinners, and groups, they have more than one room.

I dined here repeatedly in the past six months, and the food was excellent each time. The chateaubriand is served on hot plates with veggies and fries. The fish brochettes were also delicious. This is the best place for steaks in Nouakchott in my opinion, and this view is widely shared among the expat community.
Let's start by saying this place has the BEST STEAK in town. It comes out on a 500 degree plate sizzling in butter. All the sides are phenomenal, definitely get the potato gratin, the sliced potatoes are cooked in a creamy sauce covered in cheese! The atmosphere is comfortable and I have had great waiters every time I've come. Would definitely recommend a reservation though!

This place is a bit hard to find, but is worth the search. A beautiful home in a residential area, the ambiance is perfect. The service and food were outstanding, and the price was affordable. The filet with Roquefort sauce was perfect. Various sauces and side dishes are available. The mashed potatoes were excellent. Espresso was the best i have had in a long time.
