Maison Baci, which doubles as an Italian deli, has outside seating under the arcades of Saint-Louis Square. The design of the interior is trendy and attractive, with black and white tiled floors, dark shelves loaded with goodies, blond woode tables and black, white and blond woode chairs. As the weather was (finally) nice, we preferred to have lunch outside. The rather impatient waitress who brought us the menu strangely insisted on the fact that they did âItalian cuisineâ. In a place called âBaciâ, we had taken that for granted. However, looking at the menu we feared Baci might be trying to fuse French, German and Italian cooking. The choice of light and healthy pasta dishes was very poor, but there was a dish combining roasted pig, pancetta, cabbage and tagliatelle. We ended up ordering a salmon carpaccio and a mozzarella salad. When I asked to leave the raw carrots out (because of an allergy), the waiter replied he had to go and ask if that was possible. Fortunately, it was. The salad was fresh and yummy. The salmon carpaccio was also satisfactory, but the portions of bread were parsimonious. Baci is clearly not a place for people with food allergies because some ingredients are not mentioned on the menu, like the nuts that topped the salmon carpaccio. We also wondered what the orange liquid on top of the mozzarella was. Certainly not regular olive oil. Service was friendly enough and prices were reasonable. With a coke, a glass of red wine and one expresso we spent 36â¬.

We are not familiar with Algerian food ands only ate here because everywhere was fully booked on a busy Saturday night. We ordered the couscous royal for 3 persons and a bottle of Algerian wine, which was quite drinkable. The food was well cooked and tasty but did not arrive all at once, maybe that is how this cuisine is served? The service was slow and inattentive but not a complete disaster. However, probably would go here again.

On the recommendation of TripAdvisor we stopped to have dinner in your real Italian Restaurant. The food is absolutely delicious and portions are plenty, just what you would want. Service was super generous and friendly. Next time I am in Metz, will definitely be coming back because this Restaurant is not to be Missed!

We visited eastern France during the June 2019 European heatwave (high temperature today was 103 F). Miserable! We wanted to find a place near the cathedral for lunch, but all the places that our maps recommended were either expensive, fussy places or places without air conditioning. We were about to throw in the towel and get a salad at a non-air-conditioned pizzeria, THEN we saw Au Coeur du Liban down a quiet side street. What an oasis! The food was excellent, the ambiance and service were outstanding.

No 1 restaurant in Metz? Really!? It just shows how, even in France, TA reviewers can get it badly wrong.I should have known, of course, that a pizza called Andre, aaah! was not going to be authentically Italian, but I was not quite prepared for the way in which the odd mix of toppings (including three very small mussels in their shells) coalesced into an off-putting sludge when it hit the hot dough. I could not bring myself to finish it - even though I am a World War II baby trained to eat whatever is on my plate. The place itself lacked anything resembling comfort or charm; and the only redeeming feature was the cheap but good carafe of wine.
