'Gatta' is the one restaurant I booked before we arrived in Lucca. Firstly, the service is delightful. The two ladies at front of house could not have been friendlier or more helpful. We were late arriving and they were very accommodating despite the place being quite busy. The decor is fun and the place is nice and bright. We chose a tasting menu based on fish and seafood. There are some unusual combinations and bright ideas. It started really well with fantastic home baked breads, all nicely seasoned and a lovely amuse bouche of apple and celeriac puree. The soup was a nice, traditional one of Tuscan beans with salt cod and it was tasty but, like the following courses, it was a bit under seasoned for our taste. Despite this, I really enjoyed the following dish of freshwater fish with courgette, pumpkin, balsamic and olive oil - it was beautifully fresh tasting. Neither if us much liked the next pasta dish although I did eat all of mine. The pasta was too 'al dente' for our taste and the sauce a little bland. Seared tuna was next and this time, the seasoning was not too bad but I often find tuna a little disappointing. I was hoping this would be different but I must just have a problem with tuna! Fortunately, desserts were truly delicious and (along with the bread) the highlight of the meal. I still give quite a high rating as I enjoyed the evening very much and the 'seasoning' issue is a personal one. My partner is a chef and I know that chefs vary quite considerably when it comes to this. Also, we could have asked for extra salt - it was a pity there was none on the table. We were asked about food allergies and preferences at the beginning which is always a good thing. I would still recommend 'Gatta'. Its a great experience and a different one in Lucca.

This restaurant was the closest to our holiday villa so we thought weâd book in and try it after looking at the reviews. Although our Italian is non existent and the lovely waitress spoke little English she explained the concept patiently and well to us. Each dish on its own was really well prepared and tasty however we were just over faced with the number of courses. Yes it was excellent value but I think if we returned we would ask to cut out a few and just enjoy it more. I also think it would be better if there were a group of you as the pace of service seemed slower than for our small party. Overall though worth a visit even if itâs just for the view!

Donât let the outside of this wonderful little pizzeria put you off. Walk through that dingy doorway, continue past the deli counter (which is pretty special In itâs own right) and into a lovely little restaurant in the back. The place is always full of locals which always tells me a lot about a place! They do some nice appetisers and a few pasta dishes and Secondi plates, but itâs the pizza that makes this place. With a huge pizza oven and probably 40 different pizzas on offer you canât go wrong. Our party of nine went twice on a recent holiday and both times we all came away really satisfied. We made the mistake of choosing a different place for our meal on our last night and we all regretted it!!A little tip, save yourself for pudding and walk just down the road to gelateria Sauro who do the most amazing gelatos!!

We offer a dining experience that goes beyond the plate, incorporating history and traditions, ethics and sustainable agriculture into each dish. We carefully select products from our local bounty, using local products whenever possible. Alda is a talente
Discovered this restaurant thanks to our host in Capannori who recommended it and I must say that going there for Valentine's Day was the perfect choice and led to an amazing evening. The restaurant was decorated with delicate and romantic touches for the eve. We arrived very early as soon as it opened at 7.30pm and the manager and waitresses were very welcoming and friendly. There was a varied menu with very worthwhile prices. The waitress brought us some complimentary pumpkin soup which I really enjoyed. Then, we ordered the 'Salumi' platter as an appetizer between us, which gave us the opportunity to sample some local delicacies. But the best was yet to come! I must admit I fell in love with the starter - a cheesy risotto with tasty sausage. I slowly relished every mouthful and honestly think I have never eaten a more delicious risotto in my life! Our main course consisted of pheasant marinated in oranges - again, mind-numbingly good! In the end, I was so full that I had no place for dessert, however I have no doubt it would have been excellent as well.Truly an evening to remember! Thank you I Diavoletti! I will mention the place to whoever is about to go to Tuscany!

Antica Locanda Di Sesto is a restaurant located on the right side of the Serchio River,in the outskirts of Lucca. The Building dates back to the 1368, as the marble stone in front of the restaurant says, a period when the local merchants started to build
What a fantastic place to enjoy Dinner ,Location, Kitchen, Service, all fit in one word, perfect..This restaurant is family owned for over 200 hunderd Years and vibes the Tuscan air, pleasant and relaxing.Try the spaghettoni al guanciale, goes al dente in a big Sheep cheese bowl, stir with some crispy pork and put a on warm plate, a taste explosion, in what seems a simple recepy, less is more. The starter, being antipasto misto della case, is somthing to be proud of as kitchen chef, a large selection of Tuscan goodies, it made my day.Next time around, I will rush back, can`t wait, well thinking about that, It`s a great excuse to go soon.Keep this Gem for yourself please.

Osteria Canaiolo is located inside the park Hotel Hambros in Lunata a few kilometers from the city of Lucca
We had dinner here tonight and it was delicious. As we arrived there were people standing out side on the terrace. It felt more friendly and local than touristy. The service was friendly and open - and the host (owner?) speaks english. We stupidly forgot to ask his name. The food was simply divine. We had two pasta primo - green ravioli with ricotta and a seafood carbonari. For secondi I had a tuna in a Japanese style and my brother had beef. The tuna was delicious with a flavour I wasn't expecting and the beef was melt in your mouth perfect, tender and flavourful. My sister had the fish and chips and they were happy to do it grilled for her. There was a family group of 22 plus another group of maybe 8, and a few smaller tables like ours and they seemed to do very well bringing out food for the whole table at the same time. Because of the large group the service was a little slow, particularly to get our bill, but we totally understand the challenge of such a large group and agreed that they handled it very well. Definitely recommend if you're in the area and want a delicious meal, reasonable price and friendly, tasteful atmosphere.

This is supposed to be a Michelin star restaurant and the food is of that quality. Unfortunately the service is woefully lacking. The Maitre Dâ is aloof and seems to be overwhelmed with his responsibility. 8 of us had a fine lunch and the food was very well prepared. However, several times during our meal we were required to get up and refill our wine glasses. The staff seemed not to notice empty wine glasses. This despite the fact we consumed 6 bottles of wine and ended up with a tab of $125.00 per person. You would think a table that generated over $1,000.00 in revenue would have commanded at least a modicum if attention, but alas they were too busy to notice us. I say spend your dollars elsewhere. Someplace where you will be noticed and appreciated. There are many good restaurants in Lucca. This one is not a good choice. At a lower price point it would have rated higher, but it is a very poor value

When arriving in our holiday villa we decided to eat out. The house owner referred us to the osteria. Somewhat reluctantly patron Andrea accepted our reservation of 18 people the same night. The contrast with this reluctance couldn't have been bigger compared to the reception upon arrival. Malika treated us enthusiastically and warm. The food was great as well was the prosecco and wine.Andrea regularly checked up on us regularly. We had a wonderful night and most definitely will come back. Thank you Malika and Andrea!

We were family of four, home feeling place, no fancy decor, beautiful as it is. This is typical papa & mama restaurant, offering what available fresh today and tasty gorgeous food. The service is excellent and the price is realistic, affordable. 4?starters, 5 main, bottle of wine and 3 soda, big family size desert home made a little bit of everything and there bottle of water for â¬70. I do recommend this place.

Very nice restaurant in Marlia with excellent service. The menu included many unusual and inventive dishes (not typical of Tuscany), the wine was good and reasonably priced and the decor was great. However, the restaurant was freezing cold and we kept asking for the heating to be turned up but there just weren't enough heating units installed. This would be fine in the summer obviously!
