Having had a good family meal in 2011 we returned to this restraunt twice in February 2013. On both occassions the meal was outstanding. The cuisine is basically French but with an Alpine flavour. The menu changes daily depending upon availability of the raw matierials.Children's menus are also available. From the outside the Galion looks like a bar, the restraunt area is behind the bar and is nicely decorated in modern Alpine style. The service is friendly and the manager speaks good English. Like most French restaurants things do not get going until about 8pm.Not cheap but food of this quality never is.

I can see why this restaurant gets good reviews. To sum up: good food, good value and a good atmosphere.Having spent the afternoon wandering around this resort sussing out the restaurants, I'd chosen this place for the evening for its melanzane parmigiana followed by pizza, my choice among many possibilities. I went here at around 6 in the evening on a Sunday at the end of January (very much off-season) thinking I would book for later. However, there were no lights on and there was no reply to the telephone number given on the board outside for reservations â I thought maybe they were closed ...Luck had me in the same area around 18h50 and hooray! there were lights ... "Come back in 15 minutes ..." they said, "we'll be open". When I got back the place was already filling up rapidly (there are only 30 or so places inside). Happily they'd kept a table for me.Having already made my food choice, the wine choice was easy: a simple wine list, especially if you ignore the French wines (itâs an Italian restaurant!) which boiled down to a reasonably-priced Sicilian Nero d'Avola (11â¬50, if I remember correctly), or slightly over-priced Valpollicella or Chianti. Not a difficult choice. My starter was excellent, the pizza also: copieux the French would call it. But on top of that there was an extremely good ambiance created by the chef (Italian) who wandered round the room chatting up the ladies and kiddies, but also while cooking pasta over and in a regato cheese husk. All in all, an excellent, entertaining evening meal and very good value.

Apart from the hotel du Randonneur which is closed at lunchtime this is the only bar/café in the beautiful hilltop village of Rimplas. We arrived around 1230 to be greeted by an unsmiling, grumpy woman who seemed oddly disgruntled that we might actually want something to eat. We were the only guests. She declared with perverse passion that salad was not available and that aside from pizza the only thing she could offer was âviandeâ. We went for pizza. She appeared aggrieved that one of us might want pizza without cheese. When the food came it was really good, but a side salad and perhaps even a smile would have been even nicer. By the time we left only one group of four had come eat.
