Located in East Lyme amidst one of the most picturesque areas of Southern Connecticut and the Mystic region, il PomodâOro Restaurant & Pizzeria beckons Italian food aficionados with an intoxicating selection of dishes sure to tantalize everyoneâs appetite
When people speak about dining out at an Italian Restaurant they rarely experience dining as if they were in Italy. The American influence has changed the Italian restauranteur to cater to the American palate instead of staying true to the Italian culture. Il Pomod'Oro does not waiver in the style that their heritage and customs have been instilled by the owner, Petrit. Their chef, Bruno, has brought his Italian culinary training to America for the first time in Il Pomod'Oro. They don't believe in sacrificing quality, their integrity is paramount to Italian country cuisine. It separates them from any other restaurant in Connecticut. Not one other dining establishment does what they do, the sacrifice is to great. The customer at Il Pomod'Oro is paramount. The staff is sworn to a dining experience like no other, this is the difference. They always make me feel that I am the most important guest in the house. There attention to detail is a benchmark in the industry. Wine Selection, food pairing, cleanliness, from outside to inside they are unrivaled. The menu creativity is what places this restaurant completely apart from a so-called competitor. If your not dining at IL Pomod'Oro once a week or twice a week you are missing the taste of True Italian Cuisine, I mean organic, farm fresh quality that is never compromised, never. Take a drive to East Lyme, settle in to the Italian way of life that one experiences in Europe. Bellissimo Il Pomod'Oro, Bellissimo!

I love this place. When you're in love, you look past the flaws, you find faults to be intriguing, imperfections are attractive, and Iâm still in that place. We have tried most of the dishes at Pick Pockets Deli, and they have all been fabulous. My wife says you need to judge a place like this by their falafel, and they passed the test by serving perfectly browned and seasoned ground chick pea balls. We ordered the falafel in a pita and as a side with two different sauces, the tahini and tzatziki. Their tahini sauce is perfect because it's not too anything, which is difficult. Another important test is the chicken, and they have a great recipe for chicken souvlaki. The grilled chicken was marinated and very flavorful, and I plan to try more of their meats. Not that there nothing to complain about. I will start changing my tune if they donât start to decorate something. All this flavor, and the walls are almost bare. I will say that the restaurant seems brand new, everything has just been painted, and I am glad they started their focus with the food, but now is a good time to consider some landscaping and maybe a potted plant. I get everything to go because I live three blocks away and have three kids, but most of your guests will have to pull into your driveway. The restaurant is clean inside and freshly painted outside, but it has no curb appeal outside and generic deli seats inside. If I was forced to say something negative about the food, I would say the tzatziki was only palatable, but not delicious (I tend to like it with a little more garlic). The fatoosh looked divine, but was also very bland. This may be due to the season and the taste of tomatoes in May/June. I will say the tabbouleh type is not my preference. I think of it as more Lebanese (meaning too much green and not enough Bulgar and tomatoes), but on multiple occasions the hummus is fantastic.
