Had dinner here twice during a recent visit to Elounda and on both occasions our food choices were lovely well prepared and presented. Staff were very friendly and helpful and appropriately attentive.Good and reasonable wine choices. All in all a very good place to dine it's probably best to reserve a table as we did see a few people get turned away.

This place is full of history and still one of the best restaurants in Elounda. We ate lunchtime and got a table but do suggest booking for evenings. Here is a snippet on 'The Hope' and Mikhalis from March 2009... "I am in a hill-top kafenion bar in north-eastern Crete. The heat is dry, and the light on the stones is the colour of straw. Cicadas are clicking their back legs together like knitting needles. Geckos are scrambling up the dusty stone wall to where a looped-up hose-pipe is dribbling water. This bar is a little oasis â a tiny veranda where a handful of green metal tables fight for space amidst a jungle of geraniums, pink bougainvillea and an assortment of potted chilli plants. Far below me, the thrilling brilliant blue of the Gulf of Mirabello seems to stretch to infinity. Closer to hand, through a swish of bead curtain behind me, I hear Mikhalis â the bar's proprietor â rooting around in the chest freezer of his kitchen. The kitchen itself is a piece of history: plastic tablecloths, wonky wooden shelves coated in pistachio-coloured paint, and a mandolin hanging on a hook.Mikhalis shuffles back out onto the terrace with a tin tray bearing two beers, a bottle opener and a silver dish of peanuts in their shells. Mikhalis is, I am assured, 96 years old. He gestures for me to do the honours with the bottle opener, then hangs his walking stick over the back of a yellow bucket chair and settles down beside me, beaming broadly. He has two teeth, eyes like currants and the twinkly sort of smile that makes a girl go weak at the knees. When he folds his hands beatifically over his stomach, half-closes his eyes and starts to reminisce, I feel almost star-struck." Enjoy....Thank so much for your lovely words!Michalis it was one very good man with such a good heart and big character! We give our best to make him proud for us and to keep our village alive! We respect the past and continue to the future, with our style now and we hope to make new memories from our place and from us like michalis do it 80 years now!We hope to cu again soon and we wish you a nice winter !Best regards Dimitris and Amalia!

Terrassa restaurant follows with respect the Greek gastronomic identity. An identity coming from a strong cultural fermentation combined with the gastronomic imagination of the Greek people and the excellent quality products of the Greek Land. This very c
Along with Kantouni (different proposition - equally good), our equal favourite restaurant in the Elounda area.Charming people, a beautiful property, a jaw-dropping view, and fantastic food, exquisitely cooked and presented. When you've read the menu, ask about the specials - this place has a well-earned reputation for slow-cooked dishes that just melt in the mouth. We had the added pleasure on one visit, of enjoying a terrific live duo on guitar and vocals. This place has the flexibility for terrace dining or inside in an elaborate conservatory, if the wind is blowing a bit hard. And the big bonus...when the bill comes, you will be pleasantly surprised.Great to see that the best places have not decided to fleece the diners!

What a great find, one of my favourites. Great atmosphere and setting, superb food and service.Very friendly English owners. The menu does not have a huge variety of dishes, but this obviously is key, as, after visiting a few times we realised every dish ordered was just perfect, I cannot fault this restaurant, would highly recommended, and guarantee, one reservation will lead to another.I definitely will be returning.

In line with all the great reviews, we found Palio Kantouni to be excellent. It's not a place that tries to be glitzy, but it does try to provide really superb food - and it succeeds. Add to that a wonderful view over Elounda plus service from guys you can't fail to like, and you've got all the ingredients for a great dinner. If you want to give it a go, make sure you book.
