Reviews on Mediterranean food in Cuenca, Azuay Province, Ecuador. Writers and poets have long flourished in arts-oriented Cuenca, the country's third-largest city and the capital of the Azuay province. Cafes and galleries are tucked among the narrow cobblestone streets. The main plaza hosts both the old cathedral, started in 1557, the year the city was founded, and the blue-domed Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, dating to 1885. Locally made Panama hats get top billing at the markets, with centrally located Casa de la Mujer a shopping standout.

We understand that the restaurant has a spectacular ocean view but it cannot be seen at night. Nevertheless the restaurant building and the entrance are quite spectacular. We found the tables inside, at least the ones in the area where we were seated, too crowded together, which detracted significantly from the three star experience. We managed to strike a conversation with the guests in the table next to us and the server served with difficulty. Service was a notch below expected. There was a wait between dishes and for the bill. Perhaps all f this dimmed our interest in the food, which we felt was also a notch below.Dear, Sorry but it seems you are a bit confused. We are located in Cuenca - Ecuador a beautiful city in the Andes. And we serve Mediterranean cuisine. Visit us, Regards,

In our travels through South America, now in our 7th months, the most memorable experiences have been walking into the proverbial "hole in the wall" restaurant and be met with a myriad of delightful flavors packed with focused and friendly attention. This was the case with Quo Vadis. Within the intimacy of their 4 tables, we were greeted, served, informed, fed, and parted in the most nourishing and authentic way. The beef with mushrooms and truffles was superb as it was the pasta carbonara. We could taste the freshness of their ingredients in every bite! We tasted the red pepper jam and we just had to buy a jar to take home! But it was the intimacy of the staff and chef around our table that brought it all together and created a unique experience.

With more than 20 years of operation Villarosa its a Classic in Cuenca
Had dinner at Villa Rosa last night as I was yearning for some Italian food. The restaurant decor and layout was quite a surpirise as I wasn't expecting such elegance in such a location, but it was very tastefully and well done. The Staff, especially Jerry (the bar tender) were very helpful and professional.I ordered a bottle of white wine at $30.00 US (which was one of the cheapest) and the mixed seafood risotto (about $20.00 US) I was served 3 slices of bread with great garlic butter then the wine while waiting (which was nice and cold). The risotto was very good and served at the right temperature, (better than I would have expected anywhere in Ecuador).Chocolate cake with ice cream and a glass of Hennesy @ $20.00 US) to top it off, YIKES!!! Yes an expensive meal but as they say here in Ecuador, you can expect to double your bill if you have alcohol!!Overall a great and tipsy experience!!

We work as a time in my land, Modena, cradle of pork and fresh pasta We take you to discover the flavors of the authentic time We are located on the second floor of the Hotel Vieja Mansion, in the center of the city
Massimo's trattoria is in a new neighbourhood, a traditional simplistic eatery where you can see the kitchen and smell the food being prepared, and an outdoor patio. Salumeria Vecchia Modena is now located on Paseo de las Canaris continuing to masterfully create fresh, homemade, classic Italian food with love ! An extensive menu of pizzas, lasagne, pastas, salads, and more. We started with four different freshly prepared salsas and fresh artesanal bread. Then we enjoyed traditional prosciutto with melon. Our main plates were home-made pasta and gnocchi. Both were â melt-in-your-mouthâ delicate and the pesto sauce, and orange bursting with exquisite flavour. No room for deserts this time. While not centrally located for visitors to the city, very popular with locals, a visit is highly recommended.

Mediterráneo, an Italian oasis in Ecuador, offers a rich letter in history and big gastronomic traditions, in an ambient hot weather and welcoming. Our pizzas are prepared in firewood oven, in a handmade way to the pure Italian style. Mediterrano, "Italia
I ordered a quattro stagioni pizza. My friend specified I wanted the crust crispy. I have to say the toppings were really generous, flavorful and satisfying. However, the crust was limp, not at all close to crispy. It could be my friend's Spanish is not quite as good as she thinks or the waiter forgot to pass it on to the kitchen staff. I did enjoy the pizza, but it was not one of the best in Cuenca. One friend ordered spaghetti carbonara. It looked un-decorated. Though he said it was tasty, he regretted not ordering something else. The other friend had some sort of a salad that was brimming with toppings. It looked incredible and a taste testing proved it was.

I guess there is Cuenca time. Open at 5 means 5:10. At least you can wait in the hotel lobby, which also operates as an extension of the restaurant. Understandably so. The restaurant is small, and given the quality of the food, I can see why, as they draw a good crowd. I ordered the pesto pasta dish with chicken; delicious. Service was also good aside from the late opening. Again, not cheap for pasta and chicken in Cuenca, but worth a visit.
