Les Deux Freres d'Uzes

Sadly this is a review of the service and attitude of one of the 2 brothers as opposed to the food. Even more disappointing as we couldn't get a table last year so we were eagerly awaiting this meal. We arrived on time for our booking to a cold greeting to say the least. The next comment was "Here are the menus, I assume you're all fluent in French". As it happens I am so am always pleased to be translator but any need for the bad attitude? We then asked if there was a kids menu. He pointed to the fact that they do not have one and it is stated on the menu. Fair enough but normally people offer am alternative, for example a smaller portion! His comment was that children aren't the target market...Maybe not but we are and they will be in the future, if they have one!We left and went to one of the many other excellent restaurants in Uzes with more welcoming hosts.Cher Monsieur My brother and I we thank you very much for your review of last week. However we deeply regret that your experience with les Deux Frères d’Uzès did not correspond to your expectations. There might be a misunderstanding between you and us, as our spot is first a wine cave before being a restaurant. As such, we serve a wide range of regional wines per bottle or by the glass around tapas or simple meals pairing with the selected beverages. Therefore, you might understand that we do not offer special meals for children, as they are not allowed to drink alcohol. We do hope that you have enjoyed your stay in Uzès and that you have found another restaurant which was more convenient to you and your very young child.Regards

A very large wedding party gathered here for dinner the night before the wedding, it had been planned meticulously but the whole evening was spoiled by an incompetent and rude owner/chef who was incapable of organising his troops. The food came out ridiculously late and was only average at best, an over-fussy scallop starter was followed by an over cooked and poor quality steak - the whole table was underwhelmed by the offerings. If you’re incapable of providing decent food for such numbers then you shouldn’t attempt to do so.The setting in the garden was lovely which is why I’ve given two stars, he certainly doesn’t get any for customer service. He made the fluent French speaking bride-to-be cry and was lucky that the groom didn’t understand his ranting or he probably wouldn’t be cooking again for a while.

Apparently this place only opened around June '17 - we noticed it while exploring the town and decided to book it for an evening meal for 4 of us.Very glad we did - attentive service and delicious food with good variety on offer (a little from France, and a little from further afield as the name implies). We ate outside, under the walls of the Cathedral (there are tables there in a quiet little alleyway which reaches the Place de Herbes) and it made for a very pleasant dining experience all told.Wish the owners all the best with their venture but based on our experince am sure this place will be a success.

The restaurant is basically outside but partly under some arches hence the name.I had the grilled St.Marcellin cheese which was a little bowl of melted cheese, followed by tuna steak served with a vegetable salsa and a little bowl of cheesey mashed potato. The tuna was perfectly cooked and was delicious. For dessert I had the banoffee pie which was tasty and surprisingly light.Excellent service and great ambience.129€ for four was good value considering the rest of the party had 6 glasses of wine amongst them

Our lodging host recommended this restaurant for a Monday night (restaurants in this area are closed several nights a week so check ahead and around!). We had a fantastic meal and enjoyed the food and service. That night we had the anchovy pesto, the poisson, a French "fish and chips" that night, the local cod dish (Balade de Moreu à aïoli), and a killer Gratin dauphin, super rich. The hostess was delightful and the server very engaging and helpful. The meal was delicious and a very good value; we ate another night at the place next door (outside seating; across the way restaurant) and paid as much for okay burgers. They do require reservations, so be sure to call ahead.

Something I am always looking for, simple perfect one man service and one lady in the kitchen. Not much appealing building and parking the size of hankerchief (a lerge one few steps from here). But inside nice patio under blossominh wistaria we found a top class french local cuisine. Wes tarted with Suze as aperitif, the lunch menu started with excellent green garlic soup (a large bowl of thick and fresh soup was given on the table). The starters were very inventive, foie gras entier was melting on the palate, for the main dishes we had young duck on oranges, veal on Muscat de Beaumes de Venise with rice and excellent tongue de boeuf with sauce from capari and little sour gherkins. Vegetable were large pieces or artichocs filled with fresn goat cheese and large round slices of tomate baked with green herbs. Local cheese were the next item , and desserts came in the end, baba au rhum was delicious, and home made ice sreams /mango and coconut, vanilla and anothe fruit I cannot remember). Really difficult to eat all. Local rosé and red wines, some coffees. All together approx 35 EUR per head. But please for full menu cont more than 2 hours. 5 stars with regard to rurality, do not expect haute suisine, but in the league a top example.

Staying in St Maximin we wanted somewhere local. We were recommended Le Tracteur but found the staff rude and unwelcoming. We should have tried L'Estanquet first! So friendly. The owners could not have been more welcoming. The food, too, lived up to the enthusiasm of the patrons. Delicious. Between us we had sea bass, rabbit, squid Niçoise and veal; all agreeing that they were wonderful. Puddings, too, were lovely. When we return to Uzès next year we shall return to L'Estanquet

Service is good and friendly too. A nice spot for a romantic summertime dinner.
