Open for lunch Monday - Saturday and dinner daily; our bar also remains open for coffee and tapas during the day 2:30 - 5pm. The idea behind The National is simple: to provide a casual neighborhood gathering spot reminiscent of the bars and cafés weâve en
We recently met friends for dinner at The National. First, could hardly find the place as the signage is extremely small for a restaurant. Our group of seven took up nearly a quarter of the small dining room. The menu is small, about 6 choices for each of the tapas, appetizer and entree categories. Our food was tasty but portions are small. If you are looking for different, this would be the place. Not so much for intimate conversation as it is loud. Our apologies for the difficulty in finding our restaurant! Unfortunately, signage size was limited in the renovation of our historic Recap Plant building. If you keep your eyes open for the Ciné, the arthouse cinema that shares our building, and our signature neon blue lights, you can't miss us!

Went w/ 21 yr old daughter. First visit for both.Beyond loud group at front part of bar upon coming in but we thought theyâd calm down so we stayed. finally changed tables bc they were so loud and being over-served by seemingly oblivious bartenders. Positive: Berry Dessert crepe was tasty but savory meatball one not so much. Crepes a bit thick for my taste. Cocktails well really good. Server was on point and I noticed all the food seemed to come out timely. Negative: We complained to our female server, who was also unnerved by loud group at bar, as were other servers. We were told mgr was âupstairs working. â(She also mentioned 2 parties previously left before ordering due to the obnoxious group.)Upon leaving we spoke to mgr who was now behind bar so no way he didnât see/hear group. Had my dtr not wanted to try crepes we wouldâve left before ordering. Too many other places to eat lunch. Also informed him of less than relaxed lunch, due to adults being over served- and acting as though they were only people present. Mgr apologized but that was about it. Yes Iâm aware itâs half bar/eatery in a college town. However not everyone eating in Athens is 20-30 years old.....itâs one room with no separation, so diners are exposed to whatever is going on at bar. At 3:45 in afternoon the atmosphere should be different than 11 at night....further the bartenders didnât seem to recognize when people need to be cut off. I will not be back nor recommend.
