Best Latin food near San Antonio, Texas, United States

Reviews on Latin food in San Antonio, Texas, United States. Step to the beat of wafting flamenco music as you wander the downtown River Walk before sampling as much chili (San Antonio’s signature dish) as your taste buds will allow. A visit to the Alamo is an absolute must, as is taking in a show at the ornate Majestic Theatre. San Antonio Missions National Historical Park is dotted with 18th-century buildings and features, making for an enriching excursion.

Beto's Alt-Mex

Our story... We've been shaking it up in SA since 1997. Born down in Southtown right next to our good friends at La Tuna, we started to introduce a new kind of food to our great Tex Mex city. Cooking it fresh and just a little healthier---digging down a

Great reviews, DDD exposure, and an interesting menu brought us to Beto's Alt-Mex on Broadway near Loop 410 in San Antonio. Boy are we glad we went. The Chicken Poblano and Argentina style empanads were to die for; crispy shells over flavor packed fillings. My wife's Jicama/Pickled Onion/Mandarin Orange salad was great. The BEST guacamole we have had in San Antonio; chunky texture with citrus and onion overtones, perfectly done.Funky fun interior with cool "Dia de Los Muertos" art on the walls. Plenty of outdoor seating as well. The depth of flavors and unique menu items were the star. Highest recommendation! DDD was right.

I would’ve given this place 5 stars had the service been a little better. I sat at the bar on weekend night while visiting my daughter in San Antonio. The bartenders (2of them) were clearly very friendly with the locals who were there, but it was all I could do to get a glass or water (which I never got). I ate dinner at the bar. The shrimp stuffed Chile Relleno was delicious and the rice and salad that came on the plate were equally as good. The tableside guac was also delicious. I ordered takeout for my daughter and her friend - both got enchiladas - which were equally as good as my meal. The girl who dealt with my takeout order was very friendly and pleasant. I would definitely return again for the food, and hope that the next time the service is a little better.

Good Food. About ten of us enjoyed a nice dinner, ordering a large cross section of menu items. Tasty enchiladas, quesadillas, nachos, tacos, Carne guisada, and lots of margaritas! Friendly service and reasonable prices. Very good and close to downtown, King William district, but not too 'touristy" like mediocre Food on Riverwalk. Very comfortable and relaxed.

It may look like Mexican Long John Silvers on the outside, but go inside and your fresh good time awaits! Friends were meeting for early lunch and sharing beautiful exotic dishes, like the large ceviche in half-pineapple, or boquets of seafood arranged in molcajete bowls. Our waiter was perfect. Our first time here, we were overwhelmed by all the good choices in the extensive picture menu. My aunt took the waiter’s lunch special suggestion and got chalupas that are not on crisp taco shells, but on tender flat cornmeal beds. She loved them. We also got the avocado shrimp appetizer, which was not doctored up with any saucy business... it was simply garlic guacamole with large shrimp. I loved the ceviche I got... it had pieces of big plump shrimp, along with white fish and just a little octopus or squid. Lots of fresh pico and lime made it perfect, particularly because it was presented so beautifully, garnished with scalloped marinated cucumber. I tried the soup that accompanies lunch specials. It is mild and flavorful. I also loved how they served my Topo Chico —with a glass of rough ice, half-filled with straight, fresh-squeezed lime juice, salt on the rim. My mouth is watering now just thinking of pouring my cold Topo Chico into that glass and enjoying such fresh ceviche on large, plain chalupa chips.

Visited here with my partner as we wanted a to try tex mex and were recommended La Fonda. Honestly we were both very underwhelmed, it was pretty average food with mediocre service. We had booked a table so were shown straight there and given menus, the wait staff were quite busy but we had to wait quite a while for water and to order some drinks. The server was nice and did give some recommendations of what to have, I had ceviche for starter. It was nice but quite bland really, I’ve had way nicer from other restaurants in SA. For main I had the La Fonda special, I wanted to try a mix of flavours and items. Again it was just a bit average, tasty to a point but nothing really special about it. No spiciness or specific flavours that stood out for me. It wasn’t bad but just meh. My partner was also left without a fork for 10 mins when his main was delivered, so we had to wait for that before we could start, then the server also forgot his second beer. Not altogether the experience I was expecting! I know it’s not fine dining, it’s family style eating in a casual restaurant. The atmosphere was really nice, but for me it was the flavours and service that disappointed, they just weren’t up to much.

We walked from The Alamo to Pete’s for the puffy tacos....and the entire meal was well worth the walk in the feels like 105 heat!!! We started with the queso which was sooooo good!!! It had guacamole, onions and tomatoes in it and the chips were fresh and homemade. We then had chicken and beef puffy tacos with regrows beans and rice....DELISH!!!! We also had a chili relleno which was out of this world good!!! Our service was excellent as our drinks were constantly replenished (which we needed the H2O after walking in that heat!!!) and chips were refilled. It was a great experience and we will be back when we are in the area again!!!

We visited this restaurant for breakfast. When we arrived, we were greeted and immediately they sat us down, even though the restaurant was busy. My wife and I ordered the Machacado and it was delicious. Our children ordered the enchiladas and the barbacoa tacos and they loved the taste. Our waitress was courteous and took care of us, our coffee cups were never empty. Once we placed our order, the food came within 10 minutes. We thought it was gonna be longer since the restaurant was full, but that was not the case. I recommend this place to everyone visiting the River walk.
