This guy knows food. I can't believe how good this was! I got the kraut, the Chicago and the what's shaken bacon. All three unbelievable.

I had take out sushi here twice. The first time the sushi was great, and esp. my favorite, which is a roll with umeboshi and shiso leaf, and a few regular pieces. The second time, the sushi was unrecognizable, even the shiso-ume, and the California roll was inedible, (actually I always think California rolls are inedible, but this was was over the top awful). It was a friend who brought it to us, and if I didn't know better, I would have thought she'd made it herself as a joke. So how to rate? First time excellent, second time terrible, so I'm going to average them/this restaurant to average, but....

Kawaihae is a very small little town, just up the road from the mega-resorts of the Kohala coast. We stopped by to pick up a bento box for lunch. The place is very small and there is really no seating. As the name states, this is a take-out facility. The cashier and chef were both friendly. The food is typical Hawaiian with influences from many cultures. Everything is made to order, so expect to wait for a few minutes until your order is ready. Definitely a fun place to get a quick and tasty lunch.

If you are in the mood for excellent sushi and Japanese cuisine, Shiono at Mauna Lani is a local favorite and deemed the best sushi restaurant Hawaii County. We offer only the finest and freshest selections of fish from all over the world, including lots
We had Hawaii Volcano rolls, which were delicious. We each also had a small salad, which was a generous portion. All in all, food was fresh and enjoyable. But something was off about the service. Thestaff seemed flustered and the restaurant appeared to be understaffed. They had no record of our reservation, which we made on OpenTable. Our waiter was nice but disappeared for long periods of time. I really would have liked a refill of my water but couldnât find anyone to ask. The kitchen did not tell our waiter that they were out of the salad I ordered until I was served my main dish. Many tables were left with dishes and food on them and were not cleared, giving an overall messy impression. The staff was friendly but the restaurant as a whole seemed disorganized and did not have its act together.

I had heard about this place from others when we were in Maui in February, but never made it there. Finally went to the location in Queenâs Marketplace. Wonderful staff and the food is incredible! Had two fish entrees and a great calamari salad to start. Reasonably priced for what you get, especially for Hawaii. We had the sweetest, most pleasant waitress and everyone there seemed to be smiling.
