Reviews on Japanese food in Trujillo, La Libertad Region, Peru. Trujillo is a lively intersection of ancient culture and modern arts. See ancient ruins at the Chan Chan archaeological site and be awed by the Moche Huaca del Sol y la Luna (temples of the sun and moon.). The multicolored Tunnel of Wishes on the Paseo de Aguas is a fabulous place for people-watching. Locally brewed corn beer is worth a try. If you’re a nightlife lover, pace yourself—bars and clubs get going late, and then go all night.

We wanted to try some Peruvian-Japanese fusion food and came here on the recommendation of the other Tripadvisor reviews. The menu is quite extensive, and they offer specialty maki (done Peruvian style), traditional Japanese maki, salads and other hot cooked food.We ordered their maki specialties over the traditional Japanese maki, and the food took almost 45 mins to arrive during our Sunday lunch. It appeared that we were the only tourists in the restaurant, and the other tables were full of locals. We however saw that the food generally took a long time to be served even for those tables that were seated before us.The maki came loaded with lots of sauce, perhaps too much for our liking as it completely overwhelmed the taste of the ingredients. This may however simply be the way the Peruvians like it, and while it was interesting to try their take on Japanese cuisine, we didn't think it tasted that great overall. We ordered 4 different types of maki (comprising 5 pieces each) and this was sufficient for the two of us as they were quite heavy handed with the sauces. There was no English menu, and the service staff didn't seem to speak much English but we managed to use Google translate to understand the menu.

The bar itself is quite small and cold due to the aircon. Hence, I would suggest to use their delivery service instead of eating there. The sushi - we had three rolls and 4 special rolls for 105 Soles - was not what we would call original sushi. They use a lot of mayo and other salsas, the rice tastes kind of sweet (not our taste) and the salmon as well as tuna did not have a taste at all. Most of the sushi on the menu is with meat - often fried. Moreover, not everything on the menu is available - we had to reconsider our joice a couple of times... The rolls they made with fresh fish frim the region though were quite good.

We were searching for the Itamae sushi bar for 2 days, because it changed location. The new street is Santa Rosa (corner Húsares de JunÃn). But when we finally found it today, it was absolutely worth the searching. The sushi was fabulous, awesome, outstanding! We got a recommendation of 20 maki rolls (4 different kind) for 35 soles - they would have been worth double the price. If we wouldn't fly to Lima tomorrow, we'd definately come again :)
