We stopped here for lunch on a snowy February day, and it was just what we needed. I ordered the tomato and beans curry, which was delicious, and my partner ordered the pork kimchi bowl, which he also liked. The cat motif around the restaurant is very cute. The waiter was very nice.

Not fancy or anything. Just good home cooking by mother and daughter in place with 10 seats counter and a couple of tables. Little English spoken except daughter looks to sing American jazz ballads and she has you tube videos to prove it. I motioned I wanted No. 1 dish and got stir fry local lamb with bean sprouts etc. along with fried tofu with delicious Dashi broth. And a taste of rice ball rubbed with miso and then baked. Memorable all around.

When we stayed overnight at Aeria Tohno Hotel, it turned out to be very cold and windy in the evening. So, we decided to eat at the hotelâs own Restaurant Icho (Gingko). At the entrance, over the menu, it said it would be offering only Japanese menu for a while. I have no idea if it is offering Japanese as well as non-Japanese now.The restaurant is very clean-looking and spacious for the hotel of this size with a regular table corner, a counter, and a little fancy Japanese-style table with a pit to stretch your legs. Since it wasnât crowded, we chose to eat at the Japanese-style table with a pit. We didnât have to remove our shoes. We chose Nanbu Gozen (Nanbu dinner, JPY2,700) and Nabekura (a simpler version of Nanbu dinner, JPY1,550) and also had two servings of âdoburokuâ or unfiltered saké. Both meals were nicely presented and, despite the initial appearance, they were filling and made us happy. The same restaurant was used for buffet breakfast. Probably because we were relatively late to show up (around 9:00 a.m.), much of the prepared foods were gone and the staff wasnât re-filling them. We should have showed up much earlier. But, it shouldnât be our fault.
