It seems everyone really liked this place but us. It's not very large but has very tall ceilings and not well insulated. If you want a quiet place where you can talk to your table mate this isn't the place. Very loud inside. Not only does every voice echo but they had very loud music not to our liking. In other words, not beautiful, calming Japanese music like is found in most restaurants like this. We both love ginger dressing and this was the farthest thing from it on our salads. It was peppery and bitter. Big disappointment that it didn't taste sweet and gingery. I had to ask for a fork twice as Im not great with chopsticks and my Husband also had to ask twice. We ordered a sushi roll (Godzilla) to munch on while waiting for dinner. It never came out until way after the food and had no flavor. I ordered Teriyaki Steak Bento style box. I could not chew the steak it was terribly tough. After putting three pieces in a napkin my Husband said he wanted to try it. He said he chewed a long time on the first piece and doesn't want a second one. The bill was over $50 and the experience wasn't that great. We won't go back.

We drive past this restaurant almost every day, and, the sign always intrigued me - "Japan Latino". The hell? The outside of the building looks rather run down, and unfortunately that prevented me from trying this place out until now. My loss! Now, usually I love dives. Dives with great food, that is. So, really, I had no excuse not to try this place sooner, and I won't make that mistake again. We stopped by last night to celebrate my wife's promotion, and we picked this place based on the recommendation of our daughter that attends college in San Marcos.Happy hour is from 4 - 6 (maybe 2 -6pm, but I've already forgotten). Anyways, we got there around 5pm, and there was only one other car in the parking lot. Not a great sign starting out, but we walked in to this great little restaurant that's nicely decorated and clean. We were warmly greeted and taken to table. We spent a lot more time and money here than we'd expected to, but, we will do it again because the food is so great.I have to recommend the 3-for-$25 sushi rolls on the happy hour menu - a lot of food. We made the mistake of ordering 2 of them, and actually had to take some home (not before we tried to eat it all right then and there). Also came with miso soup, which was really good.We will be making this our go-to sushi restaurant from now on.

I've noticed everyone so far on Yelp has given this place 5 stars. It's close. It's very new. It's the newest restaurant owned by the family that owns Japanese-Latino, also in San Marcos. Figuring out the operations was a little confusing to us but it was 104 degrees outside before we walked in so maybe our brains were fried/dehydrated. We had a hard time figuring out the lay of the land. They have an area to sit for the sushi conveyor that runs around the restaurant. They also have a Hibachi table where the meal is prepared in front of you and they have a soup pot table where the soup is cooked on burners built into your table and the conveyor goes with that. We first elected the soup/conveyor table and not the plain conveyor. We sit down and there's a menu for hot meals also. Thinking this might be too much food we said we will order off the menu and grab something off conveyor but it's hot so we will skip the soup. NO CAN DO! If you aren't getting the soup, you aren't getting the sushi. So I asked if we could go sit at the area that isn't the the soup pots but has sushi and order from the menu. NO CAN DO! Over there, it's just sushi. So, Plan C, we sit at a regular table with no burners and order sushi from the menu and a meal. This takes all the fun out of the conveyor experience but it was early (5:30) and they didn't have anything on the conveyor which was also rather puzzling. Once we got it all figured out I noticed Yakisoba noodles with the words beef, chicken shrimp but also the word (combo). Normally these aren't served with all three meats and I wanted just beef. I asked someone who appeared to be a Manager if I could just have beef and she said sure, no problem. When Waitress comes over to take our order I order just Beef Yakisoba and she says she can't do just beef, it's all three. I explained I had asked about beef and she then said OK. Very pleasant and everyone was nice. I think they realize that ordering is a little confusing in this place and they are trying to get through it themselves. The temperature was nice and cool inside, the food was absolutely delicious, we can't wait to go back sometime. My only complaint is the same as with their other restaurant, the music does not fit the style of restaurant. It's loud, rock or pop and we wish it were Japanese music or at least something soothing. Picture quiet tables with great Japanese food and Mick Jagger blaring on the sound system. It's pretty pricey so expect that if you get some sushi, dinner and a Coke, it's going to be over $50.00 for a couple but no where else can you get this experience in our area and the food is worth it.

This place is very popular. We went on the recommendation of friends. There was quite a long line of people waiting when we arrived. Everyone raved about the place. We waited about 45 minutes and the server took our orders immediately upon being seated. Food arrived quickly. Many menu items available. My only disappointment was the rice, it was served on plain white rice, not prepared sushi rice, everything else was great.

Went here for lunch with some people who raved about the food. All I can say is bland food. Ramen unremarkable and Tempura Shrimp tasteless. For what we paid I felt cheated.
