This is the best meal of all for my trip in Onomichi. It's a very small restaurant and reservation is a Must. The food is delicious and simply value for money. Eat your heart out and you won't be left broke. The beef just melts in your mouth. The seafood so fresh and yummy.

I had one of the rudest and most unwelcoming experiences I've ever had at a restaurant here. I suspect it was because I was foreign (Google reviews written by gaijin seem to echo my experience). Didn't even get the chance to eat - you walk up the stairs to face a peculiar, abrupt - "we're full" (even when it's empty)... No attempt to try to fit you in - then or later... You really do feel like you're not wanted in here.

We trudged around Onomichi for a while on a Monday night looking for dinner that wasn't too weird and wonderful and that wasn't expensive Italian. There is no English menu at this place but there are picture menus and the owner speaks English - we were able to amend the order to no egg without hassle. Delicious ramen and gyoza - open later than most other places in Onomichi. Would highly recommend.

A great sushi restaurant, run by a senior couple. Owner plays itamae with a younger man, both super warm and welcoming, and willing to please clients. The lady is in charge of the service. No tourists, tv set behind the bar, quiet atmosphere. Feels like home. Dignity, fresh sea products (some of them so fresh they wait in a nearby fish tank), skill, and most important, in the opposite extreme of those awful tourist traps. Only a short walk from Onomichi Station and Green Hill Hotel. Little English spoken, but food is the great bridge: thry will understand you. It is not a high end Tokyo sushi place "discovered" by 50 Best. Best yet, it is probably the best sushi place in a fishing port city, and it seems to be where locals go. Prices very reasonable, expect usd 60 for a full omakase dinner, worth every penny. I wish we just could stay one more day to go back.

There is no English menu but with few Japanese words you can order a Sashimi and Tempura set. The hostess is super friendly and will make you feel welcome. We were not disappointed! It tasted great and the presentation nice and funny! Also, the view at the window on the harbor is very nice.

Never mind the time waiting in a long cue during lunch hour. Once seated, you have a staggering choice of ramen-noodle specialities. A shop well known by the locals is a guarantee you are at the right place. Don't expect any luxery, it's simply the food, without the opera you will encounter at the exquitite restaurants.
