We stopped by late afternoon just after 4 PM after finishing our hike from Mt Mitake to Mt Odake and back and we were tired and famished. We had spotted this shot and restaurant on our way to the shrine in the morning (it's the middle shop on the right side of the street coming up to the shrine) and thought the views were amazing from the restaurant inside. We got a table by the window and it was so peaceful and relaxing to look out. The food is average (variations of udon, soba or rice [don]) but pretty sure after 4 or 5 hours of hiking, anything will taste good! They also had ice cream, coffee, shaved ice and small snacks. We each had a bowl of sansai (wild vegetable) soba - loads of noodles and came out piping hot ... just what we needed after a long day. Not the best but can't complain. Affordable prices around 1,000 yen per main dish. The ladies working here are very friendly. I also got a few souvenir snacks from the shop out front before heading back to Mitake Station. Great rest stop. They have English menus and both western and traditional Japanese seating.

Went there 20 years ago with my girlfriend, surprised to return with my now wife and family for a wonderful birthday meal. The atmosphere, meal and service are an experience to remember.

Apparently soba is one of the famous delicacies from this area - must be from the very clean waters of the river nearby. In any case, the restaurant is located in a traditional Japanese hut-like structure with traditional decor; a bunch of "daruma"s on one of the walls, which adds to the authenticity, but may come across as creepy to some.Food-wise, the soba was hand made, which is always great, but for me, the "tsuyu" or dipping soup was a little sour. But then again, that's me.If you are hiking down this main road, or would like to experience authentic soba with the atmosphere to match, then this is the place for you. The location is tricky to find as it's not directly on the main road. look out for the sign which would lead you to a sharp up-hill fork off the main road - or do what I always do - use google map!

Take JR(Eastï¼Oome Line (starting from Tachikawa station) and get off at Sawai station.Since this place is a tofu factory you will enjoy fresh tofu, fresh yuba etc. When we reserved a table we also reserved a guided tour of the sake brewery located nearby, in which you can also have sake tasting. The whole complex is well organized but nicely hidden in the bushy Tokyo mountain area. We visited here at the end of April and there are many hikers also visiting this place for lunch and rice wine tasting. You can come here by car but then you cannot enjoy the rice wine tasting. The waitresses did not look professional but they were efficient and helpful. You come here mainly to enjoy real Japanese tofu dishes and drink freshly brewed rice wine. From our table we could see green bushy hills and clean river (Tamagawa tributary river ) streaming fast and partly wild. One can easily imagine that this place must be most beautiful in autumn when the leaves become yellow and red.

Wonderful, cosy traditional Japanese house with true old Japanese service with waitresses in kimonos and approaching your table on their knees. Next to a river and beautiful nature and surrounded by great walks. http://ichukyo.net/en/index.htmlThoroughly relaxing, great service and good, exceptionally beautifully presented, Japanese foodA must if you want to spend a day out of Tokyo in calm natureImportant to book - can do in English. However on site you might be challenged in communication, but you should take it as part of the experience. Body language and great good will and hospitality of traditional Japanese service will make up for it
