Having dine at some of the finest Japanese restaurants outside of Japan for their eels and having heard so much about the reputation of eel restaurants in Aichi, I eagerly rushed to Hitsumabushi Bincho as soon as I landed in Nagoya. They only start at 11 am but when I reach there at 10.30 am, there was already a queue of locals, so I quickly join the line. While the service staff were none English speaking, there was no problem ordering as their menu had English interpretation and the limited items on the menu make ordering that much easier. With only eels on the menu, there is really nothing much to think about. We ordered 2 sets and after about 15 minutes, the food was placed on our table. The service staff, seeing that we were not local, brought a leaflet that showed us how to appreciate this set in 3 ways. 1 st divide the bowl of rice and eel into 3 portions. Eat the 1 st portion as it is presented. Then the 2 nd portion with wasabi and vegetable dressings. Lastly pour soup into the bowl together with some seaweed and eat this as a porridge. I must say that this is the best eel meal I have without any prejudice. The eels together with their special sauce were so good that they literary melt in your mouth as soon as you place them into your mouth. You need to be there to taste this and you will be converted to an eel lover.I cannot wait to come back to Nagoya again just so that I can enjoy this most spectacular meal.On the way out, the queue was even longer than when we 1st arrive and boy were we glad we came early and have 1st bite before all others.
