Reviews on Japanese food in Napier, North Island, New Zealand. If you like Art Deco architecture, you must visit Napier. The town was completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1931, then completely rebuilt in gorgeous Art Deco style. A number of local wineries also offer tours and tastings.

We came in around 12.30pm on a Tuesday, I like the system of helping your self to a plate and sliding display, you get clean tongs and a plate or takeaway you can also order soups, we took some sushi and we ordered 2 soups, miso ramen and chicken udon, both delicious, we sat inside and it was around 50 NZ bucks with 2 drinks, the soups were 14 bucks each, lucky we came when we did a line was outside after we arrived but quickly reduced, I will be back.

'Hidden gem' is a bit of a cliche but accurately describes this delightful small, friendly, family run business. The lovely host made up a medium sized box of fish and vegetarian pieces which was a perfect quantity for lunch for two and excellent value at $18. Everything was so fresh and delicious and the tuna and salmon rolls, in particular, were outstandingly good.Very highly recommended.

Fresh traditional Japanese fast food cuisine, easily the best sushi in Hawke's Bay. Run by a husband and wife duo, she is Japanese, he is Tangata Whenua, the hospitality here is second to none, drawing on the traditions of Japanese graciousness and attention to detail, combined with Maori aroha and love of kai. Don't be put off by the non-descript location. This is fine dining. Enjoy!
