Find out what Japanese restaurants to try in Dunedin. Rare yellow-eyed penguins, fur seals and the world's only mainland albatross colony share residence in Dunedin, New Zealand's oldest city. When you're not watching wildlife, this South Island Otago Coast town also boasts impressive historic architecture from its days as a gold-rush mecca. Visit the 1906 Flemish Renaissance railway station or the country's largest center of higher learning, which resembles Glasgow University, thanks to the area's early Scottish settlers.

We gathered here for Sunday night birthday celebrations for a dear friend on a very cold and wintery night. This Japanese restaurant was very busy with many people and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. We could order a drink if so desired and water was bought to our tables. You could order a vegan or gluten free meal if so required. All our meals came out and everyone enjoyed them. A great night out was had by us.

Welcome to Jizo, traditional Japanese cuisine with fresh local ingredients. Located in the heart of the city, Jizo is Dunedin's original Japanese restaurant serving quality food since 1997. Our style is relaxed, open and friendly. Jizo is the perfect dest
Reluctantly I ate here being invited for a birthday dinner. Last time they had no tuna or avocado. One of the guest had visited recently and had said they had no avocado or tuna on his visit. So he asked if they had any only to be told they did not. He complained and funnily enough, tuna arrived. My meal arrived, no avocado no apologies, no explanation, no care. If the market price for avocado and tuna is too high, do not put it on the menu. Or at least compensate your diners for not putting everything on the meal that your menu claims. The squid rings were not terrible. A bit inconsistent in their cooking, but acceptable considering. When they brought our food out, they had no idea who ordered what and if they had even brought all our dishes out. They might have the latest fancy software for eating out, but it doesnât help them at all. Do not eat here.

Futomaki has more than just sushi! Itâs a restaurant in Port Chalmers, Dunedin, New Zealand that serves classic and comforting Japanese and Filipino dishes that are hard to resist!
We paid $20 for two chicken teriyaki bentos. Portions were very good considering the price. The teriyaki sauce felt authentic and was incredibly delicious.Best value we've found so far in New Zealand.Would recommend to stop for a lunch! Hi there! We are now located in 41 George Street, Port Chalmers. We hope to see you! :)

Reading other reviews of this restaurant I was prepared to give the place the benefit of the doubt and try it. Impressions were that the place and decor had potential for a good meal and atmosphere. My disappointment started with the fact that the sushi had been pre-prepared and stored in the refrigerator at too cold a temperature and then served straight away !The chicken dish appeared to have been preheated in the microwave and lacked authentic Japanese flavour. But lastly the most disappointing was the fact that we were finished our meal and 2 of the dishes we ordered didnât arrive. Suggestions are that they employ more waiting staff and the kitchen cooks start talking to the servers about what is ready and completing peopleâs ordered dishes. This is not a restaurant I will be revisiting or recommending to friends.
