Mio Sushi

Near the center of a suburban transit stop, Mio Sushi infuses the neighborhood with flavor. I've been there for celebrations and discovered a play in progress, been there for birthdays and found joy.Mio Sushi is part destination, part presentation, and all delicious. My kids have been so often the staff knows them by the sound of their voices if they call an order in. My mother in law called Mio Sushi her favorite, and she had few of those.Tugging at this reviewers heart strings was the night we showed up after my mother in law passed. They remembered her with hugs all around. If you're looking for sushi, this is the place; if you're looking for sushi and human kindness, this is the place. Most of all, if you're looking for an experience to write home about? You know the rest.

Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya

Kizuki Ramen's philosophy is to serve the most traditional, authentic and delicious Japanese ramen that you can possibly have without actually flying to Japan. Kizuki's food is still prepared the same way as it is in Japan; utilizing an unique method of

Our friend took us here for lunch after shopping in the area. We were here on an October Tuesday around 1:45 PM. The restaurant was still busy and we had to wait for about 5 minutes. We ordered the following: • Geso Karaage ($6.50) – deep fried squid tentacles with Japanese citrus and chili peppers. Didn’t look too appetizing because the finished products was a dark brown colour as if it was over fried. I was comparing the colour of the finished product and the chicken karaage that we also ordered so I asked the server about the dark coloured tentacles and she said that is the way it was suppose to be. The dark brown colour could be from using old oil or possibly the use of a dark marinade, if any. However the tentacles were tender (not chewy) but bland; could have have used more seasoning as I didn’t taste the citrus or chili peppers. • Chicken ramen ($9) with low sodium shoyu broth and green vegetables. The broth was tasty and was good value. • Chicken karaage don ($10) – with rice (at least 1 1/2 bowls), salad greens drizzled with the house sesame dressing. Large amount of chicken karaage and rice. • Ten Don – assortment of tempura vegetables and shrimp on a bed of rice. Like the chicken don there was lots of rice; 1 1/2 – 2 bowls. The tempura was “pre-drizzled” with dipping sauce. The vegetables included 1 mushroom, 2 slices of squash, 1 slice potato, 2 slices of eggplant, 2 slices of zucchini and 2 shrimp. I asked for more sauce as there wasn’t really much and I have never heard of tempura being “pre-drizzled”. Average tasting tempura that I thought was overpriced for what you got.The total bill before the tip was $36.50Ratings breakdown: • Quality and taste – average • Portion size vis-à-vis price – average but I thought the ten don bowl was overpriced. • Service – average Nothing really exciting and just average food in my opinion that earns a 3 out of 5 rating.Notes & Tips • Vegetarian options • Complimentary tea • Seating for more than 50 and another 10 at the counter • Located in a strip mall with plenty of parking • Locations across 4 states and also Taiwan, Australia and Japan • Check website for additional information • The original name of the restaurant chain was “Kukai Ramen & Izakaya”. The restaurant name was changed for a few reasons; one being kukai translates to “poop” in the Hawaiian language.

When my friend mentioned Bento box, I right away pictured some small, measly meal, with perhaps a few piece of chicken and whatnot. I could not have been more wrong. The Bento box that I got from Ikenohana was nothing short of amazing. The soup and salad that comes with it are quite tasty, and the box itself has an entire lineup of great food. From the crunchy tempura to the teriyaki chicken, everything was just fantastic. They also have some great sushi roles, that are quite reasonably priced. The service was friendly and prompt, and while the atmosphere was not decadent, it was cozy. I would go back again in a heartbeat for some more of this delicious food.

Sushi Town

You've seen this - conveyor belt sushi. Essentially you're sitting at a bar as the food passes buy you and you pick what you want. So there really is no service. The price varies and is denoted by the color of the plate. You add up the plates at the end. This seems to be a proscription for over indulging but I've found that prices are quite reasonable even when you don't keep track. This isn't exactly "dinning" but for people who want a cheap meal on their way home from work this fits the bill. The place also seems popular. My main concern is that the food seems less fresh than you get at a traditional sushi bar and you don't know how long that plate has been travelling around. Portions also seem a little smaller. You might also find a greater variety of rolls and more exotic rolls at a regular sushi bar. The owner, if he's around, is very friendly. This place is popular.

We went here for dinner after a matinée at the Cinetopia in the same shopping center. We both ordered Hibachi dinners, one with shrimp and the other with scallops. Plenty of fresh seafood in both. The fried rice was unusual in that it appeared to be just that -- rice fried in butter, no eggs or vegetables apparent. We didn't try any sushi. The service felt slow considering that when we arrived (5:30 on a Tuesday) it was nearly empty.

This is my third visit over several years, and Yuzu doesn't disappoint. There are excellent Japanese beers on tap at very reasonable prices, and the soups . . . Oh My! I've tried several different ones, and they are superb. I particularly like the donkatsu udon soup (noodles, great broth, some vegetables and seaweed, and two lovely thin slices of pork on top. I've tried nothing that was less than really good. Great service, too.If you go looking for it, you'll have to hunt a bit. It's tucked into a small row of shops not far from UPS and Cricket stores. The name is in small letters on the door. This place does a robust lunch business and doesn't need to advertise. The Oregonian busted their cover a year ago by naming it one of the best "cheap eats" places in the area. Very true.
