Reviews on Italian food in Sudbury, Babergh District, England. Sudbury is a historic market town in Suffolk, one of the largest counties of England in East Anglia. Sudbury itself is worth exploring on foot, a small family friendly town with a shopping area (mostly full of chain shops but with a few great local shops), and a few good bars and restaurants. Fans of art history will be pleased to discover the house of Thomas Gainsborough on the appropriately named Gainsborough Street at the bottom of Market Hill, and book lovers may be amused by the plaque at St Peter's Church which acknowledges the fact that the town was referenced in Dodie Smith's classic 101 Dalmations.

We passed this restaurant on numerous occasions and, recently, noticed it was open so popped in for a âsnackâ. Modern interior with wonderful decking outside overlooking the river. Perfect for when the summer arrives. Certainly not the case today. Lovely welcome by the front of house manager. Obviously a very Italian influenced restaurant as all the staff we saw were Italian. I learned later that it was a family run business, and it showed in the service. Nothing was too much for them.As I said, we popped in for a snack and ordered a drink and mussels with a portion of fries (very Belgian, my heritage). The mussels were chosen from the starters menu. When they arrived they were in a delicious cream and chilli sauce. The quantity was outstanding. Starter???? We have been in restaurants where this quantity was a main course. With a choice of toasted bread slices. The fries were magnificent and, also, enough for two people. As we ate the chef came past and asked if we liked the mussels âthe way my mama taught meâ. âUse your spoon for the suppaâ. A great character and he did know his trade. A very interesting menu and we will return in the evening, some time, to try their main menu. Worth a trip when the weather is fine for, maybe, just a drink from the bar watching the river flow by and the kayaking.

I stayed in a room above the restaurant .nice room good value but very hot and still no fan despite other reviews else where mentioning it.and limited facilities no hanging rail or luggage rack to open luggage on floor is primative in 21st century.Food is a limited range of italian which is the way to go ,do some thing well,no need to add to it. Iggy is working hard at geting it right open just 4 months i belive .Bit pricey for a half of beer draught perroni was £2-85 ouch.

My grandson had his 4th birthday party here today and it was fantastic. The children got to turn their previously made dough into pizza bases with flour, bashing and some rolling out. Then they added tomato topping and toppings of their choice such as mushroom; chicken; ham; pepperoni and cheese. All done with their chefs hats on and plastic apronsThe children played pin the mustachios on the chef and did some colouring. They had garlic dough balls and salad before being served their cooked pizzas followed by ice creamThe staff were excellent with the children, the mess and the grown upsI would definitely recommend this as a party venue

My family and I went to Riverside to celebrate my motherâs birthday. Despite arriving a least 10 minutes early for our 7:45pm booking, we were told the table wasnât ready but to wait in the bar area. Which is fine, if only for a short wait. 30 minutes later and a round drinks one of the restaurant staff arrives to say âoh is everyone here, your table is waitingâ no apology for the delay or suggestion of âweâre really busy, let me take your drink order and get you some bread or something in the meantimeâ just ushered to the corner of the restaurant and left with the menu. No suggestion if there were specials or any recommendations just left us to wait again. Another 15 minutes or so go by and no service no attentive staff asking for our drink order or to see if we are okay, nothing. Two female members of staff were just standing at the bar area doing nothing, so one of our party went over to ask for drinks. Only to be told that they were âbusyâ. Another 10-15 minutes go by and finally one of the two comes over. We order drinks and some water for the table, none of which she wrote down and leaves with out asking for our food order. 5 minutes later the poor chap from the bar area, who was left to serve by himself has been told to come over with our drinks for some reason. No table water given just explained this what one of the girls told him was ordered. These two were just back at the bar doing nothing. At this point weâd been at the restaurant for an hour and had only just been given our drinks and other tables had already been served despite sitting down after us, we came to the conclusion we would continue to be ignored and decided to finish our drinks and leave. Only then did another member of the front staff come over to say âare you ready to order now?â What a joke, we explained that we had been ignored all night and their poor service had ruined our evening and we wanted to pay for our drink and leave. The front of house manager then became very rude and defensive explaining that they were busy because of the rain (which was bizarre) and that a larger table had taken priority over us, just what you want to hear from service staff. We responded that the rain should have no effect on the staffs ability to serve its customers and that surely you should serve each table in order of booking rather than just ignoring tables. The front of house manager then retorted that she can only apologise so many times, which to my count was only twice, one of which was in this sentence the other was rather aggressive âsorry but we are busy!â. She then told us that she wasnât going to say any more before going into another tirade pretty much turning the fault on us for not being a larger table, the restaurant for having a whole ten tables, the other customers for turning up late and the chef for being under pressure. At no point did she own up to the service staffâs behaviour and lack of interest. At this point I told her that she said she wasnât going to say any more but she kept on going, can we please just have our bill. She then left on a huff, and then another confused waitress came over to ask âdid we ask for our bill?â We paid up and were about to leave when the chef came out to see us, first thing out of his mouth was an apology and to ask what he can do to make use stay. The first time during this visit we were treated with respect and acknowledgement but alas it was too late we had already booked a table down the street. All in all 1 hour and 30 minutes wasted, no food and bad memories of Riverside. On a brighter note, just a short walk away from Riverside is Ballingdon Valley Indian, within two minutes of being in the door we were seated and had drinks and popadoms for the table. I joked if we would have eaten and had the bill in the same time we were waiting at Riverside and to my amusement we did. Excellent food and attentive service at Ballingdon Valley, and we were a late booking and they had more than ten tables! Plus it was still raining... whatever that means? Conclusion - Will not return to Riverside and never even got the try the food!

My Wife and I visited this restaurant for the first time today on the recommendation of our Grandson who has visited a number of times. We were delighted the atmosphere was just right for this small Italian Pizza Restaurant with Italian music playing which helped set the sceneThe young gentleman who was running the restaurant (Jake)was very pleasant and extremely helpful.Bottle of ice cold water provided without askingThe pizzas we had excellent. The dough mix was just right not too dry.Itâs a shame itâs down the end of North St because of this quality it deserves to be in the centre of town. But for food of this quality itâs worth the short walkWe will certainly returnGood evening, Thank you for leaving us such a kind review. Hopefully we'll see you again soon, Sophie
