May be hard to find at first. We were given the reccommendation by the farm we were staying at, La Selva, which is on the same road. Also nearby is a pony club/ riding school. It is a few kms outside Siena center.

We were tired after taking numerous wrong turns on our drive from Pisa to Siena and instead of our estimated 5:30 arrival at Agroturismo La Selva, got there instead at 7:45. The adults were at wit's end and did not want dinner, but just to go to sleep! However, our group of 7 ranged from 8 to 72 years of age so that was not a good idea. Marco, the son of the owner of La Selva , recommended La Vecchia Miniera. We went there reluctantly, with much doubt and not much goodwill left after the long drive.What we found was a packed restaurant where although we showed up with no reservation, did not bat an eyelid or try to embarass us in any way, but got us a nice table in corner inside ( I am not European and hate sitting outside in any case), with a menu in English as well as a menu in Italian. Most of the other customers seemed to be Italian. The food was traditional with an unusual but very pleasant twist and the list of local wines were ssssssssoooooooooooooooo reasonably priced and extremely drinkable that both nights became 2 bottle nights! The bread was out of this world and even those of us (me being one) who were there for a drink and to make sure no one got lost, all ended up having three courses!On the second night, in better frame of mind, we realised that above the great food, (calzone, mussels which normally only I like but which the kids asked for the next night, pasta in wild boar sauce, best pizzas in the world!) what brought us back was also the fantastic service staff! Red (hope I got the name right) was fantastic and explained all sorts of things to us (even probably really stupid things). All the staff were great, only calling on the chap with long hair (Red) when questions got too scary. We even learned why grappa comes in two colors! And my husband, trouble maker that he is, sent my daughter to pay the bill with our English debit card, thank God, not the Singapore credit card) even though I told him a small place like this would probably only deal in cash. Again, no problem, Red sorted it out, without any fuss or embarassment to our very sensitive teenager.So, to sum up, I am sharing this because when we got back to our last stop, my mother in law's in UK, this is the place everyone remembered of our Italy trip (Rome, Florence, Siena, Venice) most. They certainly don't need the good review as they were packed the two nights we visited anyway. In fact, I would say if you you are not staying at La Selva or somewhere equally close, then please make a reservation in case you are not able to get there early enough. But this is one of the genuinely good places in life, where you don't have to pay the earth for a great experience. I have heard the diving in Sardinia is good, so I am sure I will be able to make an excuse to come back to Italy and Tuscany , in a couple of years. And I will definitely come back to this place then. Thanks for all the great memories!

We were staying at the local HPB site and this restaurant is a short 5 minute walk away. There is seating outside - perfect for al fresco or a man aperitif m. We booked a table upstairs, a surprisingly spacious restaurant. The food was traditional, but nicely presented and delicious. I had the pasta with sausage and savoy to start and for main course, the sliced beef with Italian roast potatoes. For dessert I had walnut semifreddo. With good quality red wine and water the meal came in at under â¬30 euros a head. Recommended

We were staying nearby and went based on TA positive reviews. We went for lunch and had a great experience. The food was excellent, I had one of the best ever risottos with calamari, asparagus and pecorino cheese. Others had the pastas which were also excellent. The service was also excellent with very good servers who spoke very good English and were friendly and helpful. As a result we went back another night for dinner of pizza and again found the food very good as well as the service. Highly recommended for food, service and value for money.

I previously reviewed this Salumeria back in June 2015 when it was rated as the No: 1 restaurant in Siena and could not understand how it achieved that rating given that it was really just a salumeria and small delicatessen that had a very small internal seating area although there were also a few tables outside.Some four years later it is still no: 1 and obviously has a very loyal following on TripAdvisor. Not much has changed since our first visit. The small building is still divided into two areas, the shop with its meat, cheese, salad and fresh food counter on one side and a selection of other foodstuffs and fresh fruit on the shelves opposite. The other area has a small internal dining room and kitchen with a small number of tables. Since the date of my first review we have spoken to the owners of the apartment where we stay in Siena and have found out that this is their "go to" place whenever they are seeking to buy cold meats for a special family occasion. We have also had the opportunity to sample more of this salumeria's products that are largely made in-house. On this most recent stay in Siena we visited this shop on five occasions to buy various cold meats and pre-made salad items.Without a doubt the in-house made prosciuttos, salamis and, especially the porchetta, are some of the best we have tasted. Some of the salads and quality of the vegetables was also very good. There is also a good range of cheeses to choose from.During our visits we have found the owner to be very hospitable and, rightly, very proud of what he produces and very keen for people to sample his products. His coffee is also very good.However, no matter how good the products are I could not rate it the best restaurant in Siena.ciao westy54, mi ricordo della tua recensione di anni fa,al tempo mi dasti 3 stelle ora 4 , siamo migliorati. noi non ci riteniamo un ristorante ma dei buoni produttori di cibo,in un negozio particolare di altri tempi , che i clienti apprezzano x l'autenticità del posto.oggi l'alimentazione è varia , ma le materie prime sono quasi tutte uguali , noi ci differenziamo e questa è la nostra forza ,il nostro locale è un convivio di sapori e chiacchere come era in Toscana e in italia tanto tempo fa .Capisco che venendo da un paese con tradizioni differenti una "bottega" possa essere il numero 1 dei ristoranti a Siena ti sembri strano , ma qui è da valutare un insieme di cose anche se la più importante è la nostra passione e conoscenza del prodotto sia italiano che anche di primizie straniere . After reading the positive reviews, we were all expecting something better. To start with, the place was cold and two of us ate with the jacket on.A waiter gave us an apologetic look but did not increase the heating.My "Pici con cacio e pepe" were average, portion was small.

We visited this restaurant based on previous TripAdvisor reviews. It was good but very difficult to find. The road was very winding up hill and the parking lot was difficult to manage. Would recommend visiting during the day or daylight to maneuver switchbacks and take advantage of the view

We thoroughly enjoyed dinner at this authentic Tuscan restaurant outside Siena. The host has a larger than life personality and made us feel immediately welcome. It was lovely to sit outside under the trees and enjoy good food and wine. If Iâm going to be picky, Iâd say that service was a little too fast, and also be advised their definition of âmediumâ cooked steak would be ârareâ anywhere else. This was quickly rectified. Recommended.

We enjoyed dining at this out of the way restaurant. The weather wasnât perfect so we sat indoors. The large vaulted dining room had a warm atmosphere. As others have said, this is slightly finer dining than other restaurants weâve eaten at in the area. The parmigiana melanzane starter was tasty if a ârefinedâ portion . The slow cooked chicken was good too. The chocolate tart desert was good but more like a chocolate cake. Service was friendly and efficient.

Portanova is an excellent place to eat in Colle di Val d'Elsa. The food is outstanding with a good menu of typical Tuscan dishes and not overpriced. The attendance of the staff is beyond your expectation, the care you receive is second to none. The atmosphere of the place is so cosy and homely, you ending up just keep going back. The wine selection is huge and Tommy's very helpful to select the right vine for your food. In our 5 days holiday we ate every day there and never get bored about the menu or the place. Simply excellent, can't fault it.

You can sit outside and marvel at how the traffic, including long buses, manges the tight streets and corners. We had coffee and ice -cream - they have some interesting creations, even if a bit pricy. Toilets were very pleasant.
