Reviews on Italian food in Schenectady, New York, United States. Schenectady /skəˈnɛktədi/ is a city in Schenectady County, New York, United States, of which it is the county seat. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 66,135. The name "Schenectady" is derived from a Mohawk word skahnéhtati meaning "beyond the pines". The city was founded on the south side of the Mohawk River by Dutch colonists in the 17th century, many from the Albany area. They were prohibited from the fur trade by the Albany monopoly, which kept its control after the English takeover in 1664. Residents of the new village developed farms on strip plots along the river. Connected to the west via the Mohawk River and Erie Canal, the city developed rapidly in the 19th century as part of the Mohawk Valley trade, manufacturing and transportation corridor. By 1824 more people worked in manufacturing than agriculture or trade, and the city had a cotton mill, processing cotton from the Deep South. Numerous mills in New York had such ties with the South. Through the 19th century, nationally influential companies and industries developed in Schenectady, including General Electric and American Locomotive Company (ALCO), which were powers into the mid-20th century. The city was part of emerging technologies, with GE collaborating in the production of nuclear-powered submarines and, in the 21st century, working on other forms of renewable energy.

Was here a few weeks ago for a slice. Friend said the pizza place around the corner was great...I thought I must have got the wrong place. Slice was blah at best.Returned to give it a fair shot, ordered a pie to go.Canned mushrooms??? Wow, been a long time since I've seen that.Pizza was barely edible. I actually threw most of it out. Every aspect was bland....the sauce, the dough, the toppings, the cheese. The staff seemed friendly enough.

Here for a banquet held on a Sunday at noon. Buffet included breakfast and lunch foods ( sausage, eggs, bacon, pasta, chicken, salad). All the food was great and we were able to hold our function here and give out end of year awards at cost of $17. Per person so the meal must have been very reasonable priced. Nice facility although it could be modernized more - very old Italian traditional atmosphere.

Small, but not cozy. An adjacent party was LOUD & the accoustics did not soften the noise. One waitress moved between the tables, we went mid-week and waited over anHOUR to be served our meal. Shrimp Piccata. . . decent amount of shrimp, but did not taste fresh. Drinks were a bit pricey for a place that was not upscale. Bread and salad were great. Biggest disappointment was the marinara sauce over the pasta side. It tasted as tho' it was from a jar, not homemade. As hubbie often says, " I went twice, first and last time".

Best pizza we've had outside of Italy... the crust is perfectly cooked, crisp and tasty. We had one of the pizzas we've enjoyed in Italy -- potato -- with the added treat of bacon at Perreca's. Yum yum yum. Perfect combination of cheese and toppings. The chicken entree was just as good. Service was friendly and fast. In other words, the Italian restaurant you've been waiting to find. We'll be back every time we're in Schenectady.Thank you for taking the time to showcase our delicious pizza. We use a coal-fired brick oven that has not cooled off for close to 100 years. This, and our dedicated pizza artist, Courtney, are our secret ingredients. Thank you again. Your feedback means the world to us!

What a nice selection of food, the appetizers were delicious, the entree were great. We have eaten at Riccitello's several times and the food has only gotten better. There were eight of us and each had a different appetizer and entree and yes we did have desert as well. Ummm Ummm good. A real bonus was we where there on the night "Reggie of New York" was entertaining.

Right next door to the restaurant (which you shouldn't miss either). Lots of different varieties of bread, rolls, and pastries. And if you want to take it out, they'll make a sandwich for you with their own breads. Really tasty.

We traveled to Schenectady for a show at The Proctor, and found Ferrari's Ristorante through Tripadvisor. In a nutshell, we intend to return every chance we get! The food was delicious, and the service was the perfect balance of attention and allowing us to enjoy our meal. Our server was Jackie, and she was great! Our gauge of a good Italian restaurant is the calamari, and the appetizer we ordered exceeded all expectations. We ordered the special that evening, which was a blend of lightly breaded calamari with spicy peppers and onions, with a marinara sauce. The "small" size could have fed both of us comfortably for the whole meal! We didn't know that in advance, so we also ordered the Del Monaco Maffioso, and the Veal Rossano. The steak was cooked perfectly to order, and the veal dish makes my mouth water now as I recall the meal. The ambiance reminds me of the old-fashioned restaurants I enjoyed many years ago - images of Italy and relatives adorn the walls. If we lived closer, this would be one of our regular haunts. I can't wait to return!

Restaurant was packed.... Canali's has been around for a long time and gets good reviews. I think that the food was mediocre. Service was fine. Perhaps people rave about quantity. The portions are very large. The red sauce was not to my liking.

Its nice but don't what the hype is about, theres another close by Italian place that's a lot better. The portions were ok, no leftovers. Waiter was great but bus person annoyed us trying to clean up and we weren't done yet. Not in a rush to go back if ever.
